I actually ran into some of the support crews and medics at the boat landing in Berwick during hunting season and they were saying that the contestants were going through hell...once guy said that half the people had already tapped out.

There is no way in hell I could spend 60 days in the marsh where they were....they were right South of Berwick in the Wax area if you're familiar with that area

quote:

this crew has to survive 60 days in the brutal heat. And cast members tell PEOPLE that each one of those days was a challenge for their very survival.

"There were times where I thought the mosquitos were going to carry me off," laughs Wright, who has done five Naked and Afraid challenges. "The bugs there were worse than anything I've ever encountered."

Set across a massive 7,000 acres in Louisiana's infamous Atchafalaya Basin, the murky waters and impenetrable brush were lurking with predators — including territorial 10-foot alligators and North America's only venomous water snake, the cottonmouth.

quote:

In 12 seasons, Naked and Afraid has gone to 35 countries on six continents. Survivalists have faced everything from relentless rain to hungry gators to bug bites in delicate places. Over the years, we've watched contestants survive everything from flesh eating bacteria to food comas.

So where was the harshest locale for the show? The Amazon rain forest? The Madagascar desert? The jungles of Thailand?

Cast members of the upcoming season say that those places are child's play compared to the other places they've survived.

"The bayou of Louisiana was harder than any of the other locations I went to," says Naked and Afraid legend Matt Wright. "Everything about it was tough."

Hell no I couldn’t do it. On top of the bugs, pretty sure I read one time they were here a guy set a trap and caught a fawn, green jeans pulled up and wrote the guy several citations.

ETA:
quote:

He said he honestly set the snare for a hog but caught a deer instead. He was ready to eat anything at that point. The game wardens came up in a big boat shortly after show producer reported the kill. Sitting there naked with two game wardens walking up on him was awkward. He said he remained cooperative, the tickets weren't too bad, and he paid all the fines and restitution required.

always wondered when the cameras are off if the contestants have to sit and watch the production crew eat, drink, and sleep cozy in their tents?

Yeah, I've seen a few episodes where the location seems absolutely brutal and unforgiving.

I'd imagine some remote bayou in LA would present a huge challenge for someone dropped there with minimal supplies and no clothes. Hard pass.

I tried to camp in the Wax once for a teal hunt when I had no cares. Almost died three times. We actually had a plane come look for us.

If they experienced a swarm of gnats like one encounters when fishing marsh redfish on a warm fall day, then they have had the full experience. He who can withstand that is a bad MFr.

I guess I need to scratch off being naked in the Atchafalaya basin for 60 days from my bucket list.

Who knew?

the bugs have to be the worst part, just nonstop mosquito bites. I doubt you can even get a nights sleep with that going on

Some poster here was involved in filming one of the Louisiana episodes. He said that everyone in the crew knew that they’d only get paid while they were filming so it was in their financial interest to help. He said they had a bunch of Thermacells in a ring around the camp to help with the mosquitoes, for example.
