Just like ex girlfriends, make sure her replacement has bigger tits. It helps with the grief.

People don't leave healthy work cultures for a 14% raise.

Must be a shite boss if she left you for 14% along with not giving you a chance to counter. People deserve to seek what they feel they are worth.

So you’re upset about her ONLY taking a 14% raise, but you can’t match it? It’s too little for her to jump ship, but too much for you to match?

At the end of the day, it’s about the individual. A 14% raise could be a very big deal

Lots of responses here saying or implying that the woman cares about a paltry 14% because she makes assistant money.

I would think 14% is more important for someone who is making assistant money. A lot of people making that money are probably struggling to pay some bills or don't get to go on vacations.

Clearly since you won’t match her offer you don’t care either. I think a 14% raise is cheaper than finding someone new and crossing your fingers they don’t suck. You’re going to have to pay more to go hire away someone else, pay head Hunter firms finders fees, post on job search websites, then train her, etc.

You would have saved yourself a ton of time and money just matching her offer.

TLDR, so sorry if Germans, but if she’s only asking 14% and you haven’t been adjusting 3-5% annually for a while, she’s been losing money by staying with you.

Basically if we raise one person that much, we have to raise them all. They talk. They all know what each other is making (despite prohibitions to the contrary). It's not just about one person getting a 14% raise. We can't blow up the firm's salary structure for one person.

I'm over it. She can go. Moving on.

Have you been giving her yearly raises? A 14% raise can actually be life changing. If you value your assistant offer her what you can instead of throwing a tantrum on here.

Ask 10 people to define a healthy work culture and see how many different answers you get.

She didn't ask for permission. She left your cheap arse. You sound like one of those douches who will tell colleagues you had to let her go for some nondescript reason.

Or maybe just don't treat your employees like chattel to begin with? .

It's always amazing to me that companies can hire someone based on how cheaply they can provide value, and then are shocked (shocked!) when they find a better deal somewhere else.
