This is where govt could actually help people, but they don’t. There should be a list of foods and limits on calories per person.
When you go govt assistance, that’s fine, but you are now basically a child again and have no say. Food and drinks should be done to get people healthy. Don’t like it, well now you have more motivation to go out and get to work, work hard and better yourself and your family.

there should be commodities only on food stamps. the purpose is to keep you from going hungry, not to be able to get fat on Twinkies and then use your Medicaid to cost tax payers more money taking care of your obese unhealthy self.

I certainly agree there is waste, fraud, and abuse in the food stamp program but here's part of the skinny on food stamps.

I was talking to a Republican, conservative congressman friend of mine one day about food stamps, abuse, etc.

He said during his time in congress, every time there was a crackdown on food stamp programs where the feds went in undercover and caught abusers and cut them off, the phone calls started coming in from the corner grocery store owner raising hell.

He said you would also get calls from the farmer who benefits from the program.

I ain't condoning waste, fraud, laziness, etc., but a lot of folks you'd never think about benefit from the program, hence you'll never see it go away and back to what it was intended.

I suggest we go simply to a commodities only based program like was in place when I was a kid.

But, we also have that now. Go by and look at the line of folks getting free food in your town and realize that on top of that, they also get food stamps.

My one and only experience with observing people in like and paying with Louisiana Purchase Card:

Like 10 years ago I was at the rite aid on Broadway and St Charles.

Two women most likely related. Morbidly obese. Both bought a coke and a bag of skittles. Paid with their EBT card.

Me, a BROKE grad student was buying stuff with the little money I had from student loans. Before I went to go fold tee shirts to be able to pay rent.

The women pay for their free shite... and then walk outside and into a brand new baby blue Mercedes with paper plates.

Who cares what people buy with their benefits money, it’s their life. Unless you’re a fan of government regulating personal behavior.
