So if I am understanding this right they sink a barge in the channel almost to the deck. I am assuming they have it pumped down and have filled the cargo tanks with water? They then put corrugated bulkhead from each side to banks.
They’ve only done it once in 2011. If you know how to use Google you will understand how it was done

Yeah, if they lost the river there would be no getting it back. The old Mississippi River would silt up in no time. A controlled switch could work, but the amount of dredging required on the Mississippi would be astronomica
River velocity would go to zero just south of ORCS, sand would pile up pretty quick. Same problem they have at head of passes and Morgan city. You literally have to learn your boat routes in Atch bay all over again after a flood event. And when you run aground it’s solid sand.

Check this out
Spoke to a guy from Stephensville today. He said it's a shite show at the sandbag pickup. Everyone is on edge. He said people are waiting to pick up bags while he just drove around and picked up ones that were already overflowing with water.

St Mary Parish has been giving out sand bags since March...people take them and then use them to fill holes on their property.

Water would only come up to sea level if the MS River got diverted.
That’s an absurd scenario. When the river level went down in late summer we’d block the new path and send it back to NOLA. And we would not lose NOLA’s drinking water, because the river would split. It would not all go to the Atchafalaya.

To be fair... St Mary parish could be in a world of shite... I just heard ANOTHER foot of rain is gonna come down along the northerner Miss River... It has to go somewhere... Opening the spillway will just add more problems for them down the road... We are talking historic levels.........

I think you are underestimating how much sand the river would drop once it gets diverted. Are we going to dig out a new path every year?

Question....what would be the purpose of sinking a barge?

St Mary Parish will be fine
Lower St Martin Parish is the ones that have to worry.
