More than 12 million vaccine doses sent to states

Yet only 2.8 million given per this morning's WSJ. Why are the states dragging their feet on this? WV made it a point to offer to all LTC residents of the state right out of the box. The states knew this day was coming and had months to get ready.

I kinda agree. If this was truly a national emergency what is stopping us from 24/7 vaccination strategy?

They’re giving this vaccine in millimeters?

Fear is a pretty effective means of maintaining power and control for a government official, especially above what you would normally have. You start doing mass vaccinations and a good many of those people that were scared aren’t anymore.

My expectations are pretty low. But I am convinced that most any Chick Fil A regional manager could have devised a system to get every dose administered immediately to those who most need it.

“MM” means “millions” in the banking world....it’s the only reason I knew what he meant.

Isn’t the “MM” supposed to be capitalized though?

I agree here. States needed to be much better prepared to administer vaccines at a much faster rate.

Meh, some mistakes will be made along the way. It was 42 people. But what I can't understand is all these vaccine doses just sitting unused.

Haha. Me too. I see it so often I just assume everyone knows that.
Anyway, I see tons of blame being deflected towards Trump and the feds. I mean really? These officials just sit around twiddling their thumbs waiting on the feds for a localized plan? FIGURE IT OUT. It’s giving shots not brain surgery.
Here in NC they contracted with Walgreens and CVS to handle nursing homes since sending a nurse for a day to each nursing home was apparently too difficult a plan to execute. And we should use infrastructure like Walgreens and CVS, so I’m fine with that.
Tomorrow 1 vaccination center is opening for those over 75. 1 for a county of 1 million people. This is never going to get done.
Somehow they opened up a million new voting centers and offered free transportation to vote for weeks, but they can’t figure this out.
Why is every drive up/pop up testing center also not a vaccine site?

Man, those millions of shots should take that long! Geez! Why are they dragging their feet? How can MILLIONS of people not be vaccinated in the time frame that is like?!

Word on the street is that a significant percentage of health care workers are turning down the shots, causing the slow rollout. Especially common amongst Hispanic and black nurses to opt out.
ETA: Ohio governor: 60% of nursing home workers electing to not receive vaccine

I’d like to know how many were sent to NY.

States don’t have the resources to do it 24/7. It would have to be in conjunction with hospitals who aren’t just going to freely pay out that over time.

States are currently performing ~1.5 million COVID tests a day. There is zero reason vaccines can’t be doled out at a similar rate as a minimum. The eligibility politics are going to drag this out far longer than needed

Yep. Millions of people would be happy to get their shots today if they were allowed.
