Compact/Cross Over Non-luxury SUV shopping

The GFs lease is up in June. She's moving on from an Audi Q3, and is looking to buy.
We just started the process and these are the vehicles she's currently considering:
Toyota Rav 4
Buick Envision
Mazda CX-5
Hyundai Tucson
Nissan Rogue
Subaru Crosstrek
No Ford, Honda, Audi, VW, Volvo (has negative impression about these, her not me)
Key wants: Leather seats and 28k or less.
Finding that leather bumps vehicles into the 30k range due to other upgrades that also come with the leather tier (moonnroof, etc)
Any suggestions between these noted, or another vehicle that is in the same range that we may have missed seeing?
Im liking CX5 grand touring, but hated that the touch screen turns off at 5 mph, frick you.

It looks like you are looking at compact SUVs not mid-size.

The GF pic didn't come thorugh. Please resend.

I’d look at Acura RDX. If she’s used to Audi finish, all those others on the list will disappoint her. If she’s looking for dependability, go with Toyota or Honda.

Yeah those are small, not mid-sized.
Eta: I know someone who got a 2008 Lexus LX 570 with 28k miles with a perfect dealer maintenance record and was in absolute mint condition for $36k. If size matters there are deals on older big ones out there.

Those aren’t mid-sized. That’s compact SUV/Crossover. Just get her a large car. You’ll have more room, get better options, and probably do better on price.

Don't know anything about these but just wanted to say I still have a 2005 Mazda Tribute that runs like a champ. I don't know shite about cars either and have done minimal routine maintenance on it for 13 years and it has hardly ever had any real problems.
I'd vote for the Mazda if she plans on keeping it a while.

Negotiate to have Katzkin leather seat covers installed on a base model or have it done after purchase.

None of these are SUVs. They are all cross overs.

Personally, I would cross out anything with a CVT, and maybe a turbo. I have a CVT currently, and while I haven't had any transmission issues, these transmissions typically have more problems than a traditional transmission. Also turbos could be potentially problematic later down the line.
The CX5 has won just about every crossover comparison I've seen. It's not the most fuel efficient but it's definitely fun to drive and the interior really is a cut above the class.
For reliability, you can't go wrong with Toyota obviously. Beware this new RAV4 is currently brand new, so it's possible there could be some first year bugs, but that's likely not a risk with Toyota. The 2.5 they put in it has been around for a while, so it's tried and true.

One issue I with the Rav4 is headroom. I'm 5'10", but my head was only a fingerwidth from the roof. I was surprised by how little head room there was and am guessing anyone 6ft tall would have to tilt the seat back.

Maybe check out the Jeep Cherokee. I didn't like the older models, but they changed it in 2019 and I think they look much better now.

We bought a Hyundai Santa Fe sport.
Great vehicle. Very good warranty.
Peppy little vehicle that my wife loves
Hyundai really won me over

Mazda CX3
Toyota CHR
Hyundai Kona
Buick Encore
Nissan kicks
etc,etc,etc
were the compact/crossover and the
Highlander
Enclave
CX9
etc, etc
were the regular suvs, making my list midsize.

She needs a minivan, not a minivan in the shape of a SUV.

Try the Volvo XC60 though.

There are so many "SUV" segments and vehicles now, it's hard to keep track. There are also many that fall between classes size wise.
Posted on 4/21/19 at 11:41 am to dewster
XC60 is not in this class. It's a luxury SUV.
The new XC40 might be, but it's going to be a cool 5 or 6 grand above the ones he listed.

She liked the buick the best, I have my concerns with the manufacturer (my own prejudice)
