You are all about that redistribution.

It’s about revenue generation.
record sales of the USWNT’s home jersey. Nike chief executive Mark Parker reported the jersey “is now the number one soccer jersey, men’s or women’s, ever sold on Nike.com in one season.”
Overall, from fiscal 2016 to 2018, the women’s games generated about $900,000 more revenue than the men’s games. In the year following the 2015 World Cup win, women’s games generated $1.9 million more than the men’s games. And in recent years, the men’s revenue tally also includes the fees that opposing teams pay in order to play the United States.
The USSF points out that if this calculation is extended to fiscal 2015 — in order to include a men’s World Cup cycle — the men’s team brought in $10.8 million more for the federation. For the current World Cup cycle, the women’s team is likely to have higher revenue, since they won the championship while the men failed to qualify. (as in, no revenue)
Gross revenue — especially for games — isn’t everything. Matches are expensive to produce and players have to be paid, so games don’t always turn a profit for the federation. That said, in fiscal 2016 and 2017, the women’s team generated more cash than expenses, bringing in net revenue of $8 million and $1 million, respectively. The men’s team in fiscal 2015 and 2016 posted net revenue of $350,000 and $2.7 million, respectively.
Comparing each team’s expenses is a good exercise. The USMNT consistently had higher expenses (a line item that includes salaries and bonuses) until fiscal 2018. The USWNT did make more in bonuses and salary than the USMNT in fiscal 2018, according to our estimates, but it’s worth noting they also played almost double the number of games and won significantly more often.

The talent level of the opposition is a huge factor. Not much competition in womens soccer worldwide.

I wonder what the women playing for countries that actually oppress said women think about this.

The schedules of the teams play a huge part in this. If the world cup was in the same year for mens and womens soccer it would be easier to compare.

i'm about equal pay for equal work... i'm not saying they should have a share of the men's winnings from tournaments, and conversely, i wouldn't want the men's team getting money from the women's team winnings, either... however, i think that they should be getting PAID the same for the same job...

you don't watch a lot of soccer, do you? sure, we've pretty much dominated, but to say that teams like Brazil, France, Germany, England, etc. don't have or provide competition on a worldwide stage is beyond ridiculous...

well, they aren't, by no fault of the teams involved, mind you, so all we have to go on is revenue generated via each cycle...
and of course most sports fans, a majority of which are male, would watch the MEN'S tournament over the women's.... that's nothing surprising, and i'd be in that number, as well, if you must know...

His first kneeling game was in August of 2016. His first donations were in October of 2016.

This was true 20 years ago, but not so much today. The European teams have closed the gap tremendously. This US team will go down as one of the best women's teams in history for how dominant they were against maybe the deepest WC field the Women's World Cup has seen. I expect the fight to be even tougher in 4 years. The Dutch team we beat in the finals is a very young team.

Dmn3305: very good point. By the same token this country allows her to speak her mind freely. Trumpy would have you hate the press and not believe what you see, read or hear? What is worse? His shutting down our freedoms or this idiot soccer player speaking her mind?
If you choose trump then you do not understand democracy. That makes rapinoe far more intelligent.

Freedom to own bump stocks. Trump has demonstrated he isn't the biggest advocate of the 2nd amendment.

i think what he is more or less trying to say is that Trump seems to try whatever necessary to undermine public confidence in the press/journalism, while doing whatever necessary to control narratives he deems important... that includes unwarranted attacks on legitimacy, as well as flip flopping on news sources, while eroding our fundamental value in what "freedom of the press" truly is...
