re: Megan Rapinoe “It was uncomfortable kneeling, but that’s what it takes, progress is hard.”

Do you honestly fail to see the fundamental difference in “virtue signaling” by showing respect and “virtue signaling” by degenerating anything you don’t like, no matter the collateral damage.
Seriously, she is essentially saying “frick this nation’s principles because I don’t like Trump.”

The frick? You've lost your goddamn mind if you think they are the same.

If you aren't a serviceman or a retired one, saluting would be pretty try hard and look at me.
If he just means hand over heart, then he dum.

The phrasing of your question is exactly my point. Virtue signaling is defined as actions that attempt to show one's moral superiority. You view standing and saluting for the anthem as respectful(and hey, I pretty much agree), while kneeling for the anthem to bring attention to a chosen cause as degenerating something. I view the latter as an expression of free speech the flag and anthem represent, and the ones doing it feel their acting morally superior. It wouldn't be my choice of protest, but I have no problem with American citizens peacefully protesting in their chosen way. I don't think it makes them less American, or is evidence that they hate this country. Those arguments are only brought up to avoid addressing the issues they're trying to bring attention to.

Did cooper ever ask her what she was protesting? Seems to me that would be more important than kneeling was uncomfortable.
Seems to me its just for the attention/money. She really has no grievances that anyone else on her team doesnt have. Like someone else said, the only possible issue is the equal pay issue which may or may not be complete shite.
However, the outlook for a pro women's soccer player isnt that much different than an Olympian, 15 minutes of fame but not a ton of money unless you get some big time endorsements.

What if I told you virtue signaling and "respect" are just perceptions and not reality?
Commence the downvotes.

I didn’t watch her on cnn. Has she pivoted her “cause” to equal pay yet? Or is she still clinging to police brutality against peoples of colors?

Maybe she' kneeling because New Orleans is 3rd in the Nation for Murder... Maybe it's because 52 people were shot in Chicago last weekend. Maybe... oh.. wait... It's because the cops are mean.... nevermind...

That pesky Constitution. Your side's disdain for it is impossible to conceal.
This is starting to feel like a Poliboard rant, so I'll end it there.

Oh look, another women's soccer thread on a board that claims that it doesn't care about women's soccer.
It's not about soccer. It's about politicizing a sport, grandstanding to promote herself, and dishonoring the flag and the country she plays for.

How hypocritical for NYC hall to have a prominently displayed banner statin “One Nation, One Team” for a team that ended up being divisive as this one.
Perhaps we should be asking which nation the banner is referring to since it’s obvious this team hates this nation and its flag.

Exactly. ESPN just recently announced that politics and sports isn't a good combination. It is dumb. If you want to be a political superstar then don't complain because your sport isn't as popular as it could be and then don't complain that you don't make more money.
People want sports as a way to come together. As a way to forget about all of our differences. Sports has become exactly the opposite of that.

More people voted for Hillary Clinton than for Donald Trump. Easy to forget that. Trump won because he got the right votes in the right places, not because the majority of people hate liberals.
If only the coastal elites could rule over all of us.

That’s my take, and Im pretty liberal. You have clout, connections, resources to make a physical difference with or without attention but a knee during an anthem is supposed to speak louder than everything. Stupid.
Only thing dumber my fellow libs cling to is the “this country was founded on stolen land!!11!” argument. Aren’t 90% of the first world countries throughout the world technically founded on “stolen land?”

Hell it's probably closer to 95% of the entire planet's countries.

I agree. That's why I respected guys like Brandon Marshall from the Broncos. He kneeled originally and ended up going and meeting with the Denver Police Chief. Instead of "starting a conversation" he actually physically started a conversation with the other side. Something that Rapinoe apparently doesn't want to do.

Sounds like you're just b#$tching and moaning to me...
Maybe some of these people need to be lectured like kids. Because its pretty sad how some people treat others within the same community, city, state, and country. As if they're lesser than them or don't deserve the same rights.
His victory was built on the the ignorance of a lot of people as well as the mindset some, if not most, people already had'have against other races and beliefs. To say that's not partially true would be BS.
