BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Infamous contractor Matthew Morris was scheduled to appear in court again Thursday, however, he was not transported to his hearing due to being transferred to another prison facility. Morris, 39, of Baton Rouge, is accused of ripping off dozens of flood victims in three parishes. Morris reportedly told a judge he wants to represent himself. A 19th Judicial Court judge in Baton Rouge will hear the request. Morris represented himself during a hearing last month in Livingston Parish. He is facing more than 100 charges, including fraud.

Im going to laugh when this guy gets no time. Thanks justice system. I understand hes in jail not but he'll cop a plea and wont serve a single day. He will lose all his money though so at least some justice was served.

It don’t think it really matters who represents him.

"A man who is his own lawyer has a fool for his client"

This trial should last all of 3 minutes with him up there before the judge throws this sack of shite in jail for the remainder of his life.

This has got to be the most stupid move he could have made, besides his bad business decisions.
Especially, with over 100 charges in not 1, not 2, but 3 different parishes.
His stupidity knows no ends.

Especially since he did this to a lot of elderly clients. One of these judges will make an example out of him.

This guy will be in prison for a long time. White collar crimes, much like drugs, often have harsher sentences than violent crimes.

Judge: Jailed Baton Rouge contractor competent, can represent himself
quote:
In a recent ruling, Marabella determined Morris is competent to proceed to trial on the complex charges and said Morris intelligently and knowingly waived his right to counsel. "This court has repeatedly warned the defendant against self-representation's dangers and disadvantages," the judge wrote.

Did you see the part of the article that mentioned both of his prior attorneys quit because the turd was abusive to their staff and couldn’t get along with the attorneys? This while he was paying them thousands of dollars. He must be a super a-hole to get a lawyer to walk away from a paying client.
