It’s because of the NOPD and City Hall

The city said it plans to pay 50 dollars per hour per officer for those parades that do not roll on Mardi Gras Day, with parades rolling on Fat Tuesday receiving a reimbursement of 75 dollars per hour.

Teedy straight lighting NOLA taxpayers' money on fire. Wonder who is getting kickbacks on this sham...

With the idiots that are out at those parades who get stupid drunk, i would not want to do that either.

I see that it said $75/hour which is nice but not worth the headache. If you had to actually make an arrest, you are almost on your own for a while due to streets being closed and the only officers close are on the other corners.

That actually feels like a low hourly rate for officers? Can’t recall exactly, but I think back in Houston in late 2010s we were paying $75-$150 for police to just sit in their car on the side of the highway for some of my projects that required us to close down a lane.

While there are certainly drunk idiots in the area, I would think the blocks that are in question are pretty easy to patrol. That part of the route is the most family friendly.

We've paid around $40 an hour for details on some projects I've had recently. Not with NOPD, but I can't imagine their rates are significantly different.

Agree. Been watching Thoth near Henry’s for many years. No problems in that area. Mostly families. Always a good time.

Krewes have until the end of the day on Monday, January 23 to let the city know how many officers and deputies they have secured to work their parade.

Typical Latoya and New Orleans to announce ability of Krewes to call in for extra support and then only allow 2 weeks to sort it out instead of, you know, the previous 11-12 months.

So far the only Krewe that has been able to secure additional police officers is Endymion and that's because the leaders of Endymion also run the City of Kenner.

“For some reason, police from other jurisdictions don’t want to come here. It’s a great question, and I don’t know the answer,” Hardy said.

Latoya told the other jurisdictions last year that if their officers come here they have no power to arrest or intervene and they'd be in trouble if they tried it but they can come stand here in uniform.

I assume she said the same thing this year

Endymion was the only parade not accounted for in that article but I believe that they have everything under control.

If you are talking about Ed Muniz controlling Kenner, those days are long gone.

Wasn't Endymion the only Krewe allowed to be in talks with the City over a period of a few months prior to Cantrell's announcement a week ago related to original parade routes?

These Krewes aren’t wanted; why they don’t bail to Jefferson and surrounding parishes is stupid. If NOLA doesn’t appreciate the revenue you (Krewes) bring to the city take your business elsewhere.

Excluding Jefferson and Orleans, how many police officers are in the surrounding jurisdictions? Just thinking about St. Tammany, but are there even 124 police offices between St. Tammany Sheriff, Mandeville, Covington, and Slidell police?

Because they would lose so many members.

I only ride in Thoth for its unique route and was considering just not riding anymore if we were going to be stuck with the shortened route uptown, going forward after this year.

No shot I would spend the money I do to ride down Vets in Metairie.

I'd imagine the number of officers in those jurisdictions is closer to 1,240 than it is to 124.
