Modern art is certainly not my cup of tea. I guess I just don’t “get it.”

I recently watched that documentary about the art heist of some museum in Boston. The Rembrandt that was stolen was really one of the very few paintings I've ever seen and been like "Yeah, I can see why that's worth so much money."
It's beautiful and was painted nearly 400 years ago.

So you don’t understand how dunking a crucifix in urine is high art? You need to sniff more farts my friend.

The ole hustler rule for me. I’ll know good art when I see it.

Gigantic money laundering scheme as a way to "offshore" your wealth.
It's a game for most of this shite.

You can find uncannily photorealistic pictures on places like Reddit. It takes nothing away from the unbelievable talent those people have to make those drawings and such. (Trigger warning: fart sniffing commencing) But once that becomes commonplace enough for people to replicate on Reddit regularly, as awesome as it is, it ceases to push what people can do or how we look at things. I can draw pretty well, but have always thought of myself as just a photocopier, because there’s not much creative behind me drawing what’s already there, or in doing what so many others can do far better than I. But like old boy said. Art is about emotion. Yes my kid could do a Jackson pollock. Now. But he did it first, when no one else even thought of that. That’s where the creativity lies, and we’re looking at it in hindsight. The movement in those paintings, if you think of how it was created, not just what it looks like, that’s where the emotion is. And that is why that is more art in those squiggles than in me drawing a photograph that 1: already exists and 2: many can and have already done, but better. It’s making something new. It’s obvious now that it’s been done, but no one did Picasso type shite before Picasso did. The novelty, the new take, is what makes it art, I guess.

Y’all people just don’t understand the time it takes and the talent it takes to make such art. Just because it looks like it’s easy to make and sometimes like dogshit, doesn’t mean it actually is.

Appreciation of art is clearly linked to higher intelligence, OP.
I have a very large collection of original art and classic art prints, and rotate different pieces in my home and apartment on a monthly basis. Also have a some great vintage photographs and a dozen of my own "arti-fied" photos displayed. And a fashion mannequin in my living room - at the moment she is wearing a woman's business suit, but her outfits also change from time to time. It just makes my environment more interesting.
I was prepared to offer $5,000 for this original painting, but was told it is not for sale.

If you'd be willing to pay $5K for either of those paintings, I'd question just how intelligent you are.

Art snobs are the worst kind of snobs.
Anything that requires a background knowledge of the art and artist is a hobby.
I appreciate certain art, but it's according to my own interpretations, or the feelings derived from it.

That's what it should boil down to. I enjoy looking at art in art museums, but I am no scholar. I like to know what I am looking at. I like Van Gough, Monet, the Renaissance masters, etc. I don't know what I am supposed to draw from a painting that looks like it was sprayed by an elephant with diarrhea. Worse yet, have someone tell me what I am supposed to draw from it. They see anguish; I see elephant shite sprayed on a canvas. To each their own.
