This could be considered a spinoff of the obesity/COVID thread but somethings really been bugging me about the "authority's" approach to educating the public so I decided to do a little research on the topic of COVID mitigation and found the results interesting.

Damn near every source out there( WebMD, CDC, etc.) unanimously claims that there are certain underlying medical conditions that put people at increased risk of severe illness or fatality, namely:
Obesity
Diabetes
Heart conditions
Asthma
High Blood Pressure

Despite this fact, these same sources still won't come out and strongly mention that the improvement of these conditions would effectively be a:
- method to reduce symptoms
- method to eliminate/reduce the risk of fatality

Now I realize being 100% healthy can't prevent infection but if being that healthy can all but pretty much eliminate the risk of severe illness and fatality... why wouldn't they push that?
We've been locked down for about a year now which is plenty of time for most individuals to go from unhealthy to healthy. That's plenty of time to diet better, exercise more and establish healthier lifestyles.

Yet the entire focus is on distancing, masks and vaccines. This is huge missed opportunity to push healthy living. You've got a 100 year pandemic on your hands and the tools of TV and Social media to push this beneficial agenda that could save lives, reduce healthcare spending , drive up sales of fitness products, fitness apps, gym memberships etc. Why not? It's a 1 in a million shot to actually convince the laziest population in the world to move more and eat less but why not at least try?

end rant

Because telling people to take personal responsibility for their own lives is a thing of the past.
We are now supposed to depend on the government for everything

How exactly does one get rid of their asthma? It’s not a lifestyle choice.

I had COVID before thanksgiving. I am in the 35-45 age range, not fat, don’t smoke, don’t use drugs, no health issues. I felt like total shite for 3-4 days, then a little sluggish for another 3-4 days, but then totally fine.

It’s complete bullshite that we have had all these restrictions for something that 99,995 out of 100,000 survive.

I am type 2 diabetic but on keto/low carb to keep my sugars in check. I haven't run my a1c yet but with all of the different amount of information out there...I don't really know if I'm in danger of dying or not since I have one of the underlying conditions.

I actually wonder if this is for people who are extremely obese & diabetic rather than just run of the mill type 2's.

I'm pretty fit for my size and not overweight. My doctor seems to think this is just a bunch of bs and isn't overly concerned...but who the hell knows anymore with all of the politicizing and mis-information about covid out there.

I think those with a vitamin D deficiency have higher mortality and hospitalizations than those without a deficiency and IIRC people taking supplemental vitamin D are rarely found amongst the fatalities

Many want this to go on forever, for various reasons. I heard someone on a cable news show this morning say “dealing with the next generation of Covid”. So I guess that’s the new buzzword/phrase, “next generation of Covid”, so tired of this shite.

Because most people have a hard enough time getting healthy when there isn’t a pandemic, what makes you think that would change now?

ETA: putting a mask on requires much less effort. People who are obese are going to do whatever requires less effort.

I'm not even scared of the Covid and have managed to haphazardly do a few things to improve my health overall.

1. Lost 45lbs by dieting being strict with keto and eliminating carbs and sugar. Down to boot camp weight.

2. Started exercising by walking mostly but trying to change from inactive lifestyle to a moderate lifestyle. I'm not athletic in the least so it's a chore, but I still feel better.

3. Started taking vitamins and dick juice. Hitting 50, I realized I'm not near as good as I once was, but with the dick juice I'm as good once as I ever was. Remember the part about being active? Well that part too. Life is too short to not be happy.

So basically, why not take this time to be a better version of yourself? I might take this 'pandemic' seriously if they started seriously talking about the real problem of obesity and telling the truth about who is dying.
