A California man who police said claimed to be too afraid to fly due to COVID-19 hid out for three months in a secured area of O’Hare International Airport until his weekend arrest, prosecutors said Sunday.

Aditya Singh, 36, is charged with felony criminal trespass to a restricted area of an airport and misdemeanor theft.

Cook County Judge Susana Ortiz reacted incredulously Sunday after a prosecutor detailed the allegations.“So if I understand you correctly,” Ortiz said, “you’re telling me that an unauthorized, nonemployee individual was allegedly living within a secure part of the O’Hare airport terminal from Oct. 19, 2020, to Jan. 16, 2021, and was not detected? I want to understand you correctly.”

I don’t understand how a person could be caught doing that.

What’s really stopping someone from “living” in a busy airport in just the terminal. If you rotated gates and things like that people have overnight layovers all the time right?

That is not a cozy airport, living there for 3 months is punishment in itself

My question is how the guy wasn't bankrupted having to pay for airport food 3 meals a day, every day, for 3 months.

Singh lives with roommates in Orange, Calif., southeast of Los Angeles, and does not have a criminal background, according to Assistant Public Defender Courtney Smallwood. She said he has a master’s degree in hospitality and is unemployed.

Let’s forgive his student loans - since he is putting his graduate degree to work!

years ago when I lived in Chicago/flew out of ORD, and waay before 9/11 this was a thing, especially in the winter, the "squatters" would be interviewed on local news, papers would have articles about them, wasn't a big deal, him being in a "secure" area theses days is a big deal

Not even gonna lie, I’m impressed.

I get a laugh everytime i see one of these stories like when someone lives in a Walmart for a month before getting caught
