LSU women's tennis player who used racial slur no longer part of the team

"Maddie Scharfenstein, a freshman walk-on from Slidell, was filmed last week saying the slur and laughing about it with other people. Her name is not on LSU's online roster."
Athletes can be protected from sexual assault allegations, coaches can make advances on student workers, coaches can pay recruits, and LSU will look the other way, and stall any investigation. However, getting this menace off of the campus was a pretty high priority. Rather than allow an apology, and an admonishment, and perhaps some sort of training, the easy route was to ruin the life of what I still consider a child. It took years of practice and exceptional talent to get there, and mimicking one word from popular culture to lose it all.

Actions have consequences.
Plus, everything you mentioned is pretty much for football and men's basketball. I doubt the LSU tennis team has much in the way of influence.

While I completely agree with you, she should be kicked off the team for being a complete dumbass. You have got to be partially brain dead not to realize you can't do that, especially say it while someone is filming you.

She should sue.
LSU allows rap songs that contain the magic N word.
LSU most likely have allowed entertainers on campus who use the magic N word.
She would have an easy time providing ample proof that LSU allows and condones the use of the magic N word depending on WHO is using it.
At the very least, she could start a conversation.

I would say we should boycott LSU tennis, but no one really gives a frick about LSU tennis.

Yea they probably should have let her apologize and do some cultural training. They don’t know how that girl was raised and when I was young I had a role model that used that language and I did too. I learned it wasn’t acceptable and stopped talking like that but it didn’t happen over night.
I had another role model teach me that there were better ways. Also this was 20 years ago so the world theoretically is way different now.

It's pure comedy. Coming from a school that tolerates STTDB when families/kids are in attendance. Pathetic whether the sport brings in $ or not. Equality right?

Clearly you have seen the video and know the context to make such a bold statement. Care to share a link?

It’s pretty standard verbiage in the dell.
But, parents should stop letting their kids listen to garbage rap music.

So two teams with majority black players listen to what music? Dolly Parton in the locker rooms?

it’s amazing how this logic only applies to some and not all.

No. We don’t completely agree with you
Should she be able to repeat the lyrics to songs played in tiger stadium? Yes or No
She said it exactly like a song lyric, giggling, drunk.
She didn’t call anyone a N word. It wasn’t directed at anyone. So now the precedent is that we can’t sing certain song lyrics. And if we do and someone happens to be recording our life is over

Did you only listen to what your parents approved of when you were a teenager?
