You realize this is the same mentality as BLM?

The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.

One of my best friends is someone who holds a completely different philosophical view than I do. Naturally, we disagree on a lot of things. Even if we do agree, we agree for different reasons most of the time. He agrees with the BLM movement, I don't. We are still best friends. Shocking, I know.

Because I only care about the opinions of people I respect, like Warren Buffett, George W Bush, et al and don't care about the opinion of Susan down the street? How that makes any sense is beyond me, but you only prove my point - most people are uninformed or irrational

Your post furthers my point: we are fricked.

Everyone thinks they are better informed than the next Joe. I bet you aren't. I bet you're just as ill-informed as the run of the mill "liberal." How do I know? You refuse to listen to half of the information because it doesn't coincide with your already formed opinion.

This is called "the News of Me" and is a phenomenon that exploded as a result of the internet and 24 hour news channels. No longer are Americans informed about situations from multiple perspectives. Americans can muffle all the noise they don't want to hear and, as a result, rather than a well-informed public, we have a divided public, a public so entrenched in their own liberal or conservative (or black or white) ideologies that they cannot see the point of view of the other side of the argument, which inherently makes productive debate nearly impossible.

That's why we're fricked. We are fricked so hard that even "well informed and rational" people like yourself are unable to see just how fricked we are.

That "context" conveniently leaves out a long and sad trail of violent criminal activity, rape, drugs, and confrontations with police.

A few years ago, my wife and I moved from our old home, a block from what is essentially the north-south dividing line, to south Baton Rouge to be closer to her job.

A couple things about this that bother me are:

- he complains about the blight and lack of medical care in NBR, yet his wife is a doctor runs her practice in SBR.

- His wife's practice is only a 15 minute drive from where Alton Sterling died to her offices, and only 10 minutes to Government from her offices. I don't know where they live or lived, but I'd love to map it and see the difference.

At best he is a hypocritical liar. Anyone want to open up the lines on whether his children attend a private school in SBR and the reasons he espouses if questioned?

No man...at the fact that this is an accepted and celebrated look by an individual representing an institution I was proud of attending at one point.

Oh, I completely agree. His article is very disingenuous.

I'm friends with some professors on Facebook and I must say I'm also deeply disappointed to see they fall for fallacious arguments concerning this issue.

The Law School has really gone downhill recently. Dropped in the rankings, ran out a great Chancellor who was doing great things, folded back into the main campus (adding zero benefit to the Law Center in the process), and now this.

I don't know him personally, but I'd expect a more well rounded fact based dissection of an issue from someone with his background.

I would love to have Cheney Jo around still and challenge Tyson to take the Alton Sterling fact pattern and debate the merits of what happened from a non political and pathetically pandering position and see if he really believes what he is saying.

Maybe he was limited with a certain space he could use, but the disingenuous glossing over and finger pointing without any critical points of discussion coupled with his political aspirations disgust me and reek of an opportunist who cares more about themselves and their personal agenda than offering any real help or support. The fact that we are all somewhat tied to this because of our affiliation with LSU Law and that if I were to challenge him publicly I would be decried as a bigot and harassed which would then irreparably hurt my family while he ascended upward makes me sick to my stomach.

It's tough swallowing your tongue. I do it all the time. You can't even disagree with any of their arguments because you're white and you will be branded a racist. It's ridiculous in a civilized society, but it's deplorable in the legal profession.

For all the shite Clarence Thomas gets for his "out-there" opinions, he is right about one thing, and that is the legal profession seems to be more worried picking the winners and losers of social policy than the rule of law itself. Right now we are celebrating the demagogues while we shun and admonish the rational thinkers.
