Louisiana lawmakers consider massive increase in gasoline, diesel stockpiles

quote:

Louisiana already has 1 million gallons of fuel available if needed for its hurricane response efforts. However, state lawmakers are considering setting aside another 4 million gallons to address critical shortages in the wake of major storms.

Rep. Daryl Deshotel, R-Hessmer, has proposed the Louisiana Strategic Fuel Reserve in House Bill 1057. It calls for the state to spend $25 million to build three storage tanks at the Central Louisiana Regional Port in Alexandria, according to the bill’s fiscal note. Two tanks would hold gasoline and diesel, and the third would contain ethanol for blending fuels.

The current proposal calls for fuel suppliers to lease the tanks from the port, with the caveat that the state becomes a priority customer during hurricane season. Outside of hurricane season, the fuel could be sold on the open market.

Why do we need to worry about blending ethanol in a fuel crisis?

It would have been nice to do this when oil and gasoline weren’t through the roof. Why is he proposing this now when oil and gasoline are all time highs instead of during Trump administration when they were reasonable?

regular gas, no ethanol, should be the way to go in this situation...

What sucks here, is if the cocksucker JBE vetoes it I feel confident we'll need it. He literally makes the worst decisions for a state than any other elected official i've ever seen.

1 million gallons? That’s really not a lot to be honest. We definitely need a more robust emergency supply since shite for brains Biden is exhausting the national reserves.

The fuel in those tanks would degrade if it just sat there. That is why the stock will be sold on the open market (and may need to be blended) until an emergency occurs and the state gets priority. The state never owns the fuel (until it buys it during an emergency) and leases the tanks to private companys. The fuel purchased by the state may or may not be blended - doesn't say.

Anyway, that's the way I read it.

Ethanol attracts water, which would quicken the degradation. It would be better not to have ethanol in it.

In any case, you need something like Sta-bil if you want to store it for more than 90 days. I think a stabilizer is good for up to one year in most cases.

Wouldn’t this also help dehydrate the oil itself, leading to better burning gasoline as long as you don’t pull from the bow heavier bottoms?

I mean this is possible. Maybe this corrupt arse state can lend it's advantages to it's citizens for a change. Wasn't this the case during the Carter years, Edwin was actually running a surplus here while the rest of the country was in a recession because we had oil and gas?

Which I’m assuming is why they want to add 4 million more.

Why not buy some fuel in preparation of the storm?

Because I am not a politician. I am just pointing out the very obvious, which is they lacked foresight to do this when they should have and are now doing it at the worst time possible in the history of ever. You keep standing up for politicians with lack of foresight that are only over reactionary, which is the worst kind of politician and leads to TERRIBLE results historically in broad spectrums of political and legal areas. You keep standing up for your crony political buddies, that’s what has Louisiana in our current quagmire.
