Got a new job recently after only being at my previous job for one year (due to moving). Show up to the new job thinking its going to be rainbows and butterflys and it's not quite that at all. I do not fit the mold of the culture at all and disagree with how a lot of things are handled, including one of my supervisors telling me not to even walk in the same room as him after expressing one sentence of my political beliefs and him telling everyone about it. Tried apologizing to the guy and he won't even hear it. I really do not want a bunch of one year jobs on my resume but I'm also not meshing here at all and feel like an outcast and awkward. Maybe im just being a pussy and need to suck it up. IDK

ETA I completely know I messed up big time. Trying to figure out the next move.

Why would you think voicing your political views to your boss as a new employee was a good idea? Don’t be a job hopper is my advice. Future employers take note of that sort of thing.

Why would you express your political views at a new job?

Yeah, probably not a good idea to wear your MAGA hat on the first day.

Trust me. I know. It slipped because I was pissed off at everything that was going on.

What field do you work in? If this is a professional job, it is probably best to stick around. If you are working in an expendable field, I would jump ship to greener pastures with a lesson learned.

Why would you talk politics at work, much less on your first week?

I know the feeling of not fitting into the culture of a workplace. With that in mind I would say start looking now but you’re right about being worried about having a bunch of one year jobs on your resume. It’s a tough call. Maybe just stay there while looking for the perfect fit. You have the ability to be choosy since you already have a job. Just shut the frick up about politics at work until then.

I don't talk politics at work in general. There are a few people that I work with that I've known long enough (8-9 years) to know they aren't sky screamers and we'll occasionally discuss them some at lunch but otherwise I avoid it.

To save your job you will need to be in a protected class ASAP. How do you look in a dress?

I imagine you have to stick around then. Sucks. Sounds like your boss is going to be an a-hole too.

So you started talking about your personal political beliefs in the workplace and your problem is you think you don't fit into the culture?

May as well stick around because at least when you get fired you'll get severance.

Not to say your boss is handling it professionally or properly either, but why would you start talking about that kind of thing at work?
