No more than you already do to avoid looping back to I-10 east.

Actually, my on ramp turns into the exit ramp to take the 1-10 East loop. That's an interesting exchange in the morning.

So instead of 12 getting priority to college, 10 gets it.

No, they both get it. And neither has to cross lanes of traffic to get there. 12 will just exit for College before the split.

That part of it isn't weird to me at all. What I don't like is the new bend in I-12 west.

I'm just trying to figure out how funneling all that extra traffic to college drive is going to work out

Wouldn't it be the same people who would be exiting on College anyway? Now people on 10 just don't have to cross 3 lanes to do it.

To make I-10 drivers not have to cut over 3 lanes to get to College they change it to where now I-12 drivers will have to cut over 3 lanes to get to Acadian.

I don't see how this changes for you unless they use an auxillary lane between Essen and College....which means you will have to merge into the aux lane, then merge into another lane to get onto 12 W in the morning.

You already have to cross at least an extra lane because of the I-10 E onramp. I can't imagine it being worse than that.

I don't like the curve on I-12 westbound, but it is otherwise a good design.

It's not going to provide much additional value for congestion relief until they finish widening I-10 between College and LA415. That will actually take 7 years to complete at least. And it will absolutely suck during construction since there aren't alternative freeway routes in the area.

They should have left everything like it was and the only change being make a flyover exit ramp from I-10 for College that went over I-12 and placed a lane on the right side of the I-12 lanes. Providing easy access to college and that way if you need to exit at Acadian from I-10 you can change one lane to the left from the exit ramp and keep going until the next exit.

That way I-10 has easy access to College and I-12 has easy access by being on the right side of the interstate.

All they did with this is change who has to cut over 3 lanes to get to an exit.

I agree. And you would lose that new curve in I-12 westbound if you went with their original plan here, which is exactly what you outlined.

I guess there was a lack of available space or clearance to do that? That's how I would have done it if I could.

That is a better design, but I think it would have put an elevated College drive off ramp right up against Bocage Lakes and Citiplace apartments. The new design keeps the exit ramp on the ground.

It's definitely better than what we have now at least.

What you're failing to remember is that all the College Drive traffic will already be off the interstates before 10 and 12 merge. You'll have the entire distance from the merge to Acadian to make your lane changes while the College traffic is on a separate roadway next to the one you're on.

Now, if you want to get to Acadian from I-10, you have only the short distance between College and Acadian to make the lane shift without having to also fight traffic trying to cram into the right lanes as well to head for College.

Wow, I want to meet that property owners lawyer who was able to make LaDOTD change their original plans.

It needs a service road from Essen to Acadian. Similar to the one that runs from Bluebonnet to Siegen.

I was looking at it from just the people coming from essen on to I-12, but now you made me think about the people already on I-12. shite, now you will have to contend with not only them wanting to take the loop, but also exiting college in that same area. That is going to be a cluster. They had to put a light on that essen ramp to slow the people coming on to 12 becasue it was already an issue.

No space for that. But it would help.

There’s not much less traffic from college to Acadian. In fact it usually starts to back up there in the morning and afternoons. Plus I-12 drivers will have to worry about people merging onto I-10 from college while they’re trying to cut over 3 lanes. All while traffic is stopped in the afternoons.

More brilliance from the state of Louisiana.

Seems like it could be quite the marketing opportunity for Gordon.

Its ok, will help with some local traffic movements, but won't do much to relieve general I-10, I-12 congestion.

I know everything isn't done in a vacuum, and we should be able to do more than one project at the time. But I keep thinking if you add up the cost of this project, I-10 expansion, and 415 to the bridge, all of that together will equal the cost of a new BR bridge south of the City that will do more good for traffic in BR than all of those projects combined.
