Mayor LaToya Cantrell is eyeing a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for visitors flying into Louis Armstrong International Airport during the final two weeks of the 2022 Mardi Gras season, a step that could help keep the disease at bay should New Orleans move forward with a full celebration.
quote:
Cantrell said she also could issue new post-Mardi Gras restrictions on local residents to contain spread, such as requirement that people avoid large crowds from Ash Wednesday until Easter.
quote:
Cantrell first floated the idea of vaccine proof at the airport last week. It's not clear whether she could, or would, create a vaccine mandate for visitors, although with vaccine rules for bars, restaurants and other venues in place it's likely that a vaccine or negative test will be needed to participate in many aspects of Carnival either way.
quote:
U.S. airlines currently do not require passengers to show proof of vaccination or a negative test before domestic travel, though they are required for passengers returning to the country from abroad. The mandate that Cantrell is considering would apply only to travelers arriving or leaving the airport in Kenner, and only for Carnival and a short period after Mardi Gras.
quote:
Cantrell does not have a set date for approving more parades, though those decisions "will have to come before the end of" 2021, she said.
Various krewe captains are meeting on Friday to finalize their numbers of parading members in 2022, she said. Once Cantrell has that information, she can decide whether to allow parades.

It isn't a DISEASE. It is a VIRUS.

Yes I’m sure everyone in SELA will not have any crawfish boils or St Patrick’s Day parties since Teedy asked

Airport’s in Kennah, brah, and she doesn’t have the authority even in her position on the airport board.
The Krewes, OTOH, really need to move over to Jefferson because they will never be able to parade again in Orleans at this rate.

Talmbout February-March?
We’re going to be on the backside of our 2nd vaccine passport by then.

Teedee does know that people also DRIVE in for Mardi Gras…right?
What’s next…posting armed checkpoints at all entrances to the city? She doesn’t have the manpower to police what she’s got now.

How many people fly in for MG vs drive in? I'd imagine many many more drive in from southeastern states. This would do nothing to actually mitigate the virus coming into New Orleans.

For the left, this isn't about mitigating the virus at all.

Is she gonna have her royal mayoral guard kicking arriving passengers out of the airport? She has no authority here.

Every time I hear that stupid bitch’s voice come over the intercom at the airport I wince.

Most people drive in across the southeast because you need a car in NOLA anyway.
She is basically chasing off the major national and international tourists who are coming into the region to blow a lot of money.

People do fly in from all over the world for Mardi Gras. But good luck policing that.
And, as another poster mentioned, the airport is in the JP. Destroya got no jurisdiction.

Is she going to build an immigration/quarantine wing onto the airport to process all the travelers?
