From our friends at NOLA.com:

quote:

Neither have a host of other businesses, including many that are regulated by the City Council. It’s why Pierce and other Black or Latina owners of media outlets are urging council members to demand that regulated entities in the city invest in organizations that work to inform people of color.

In March, the media organizations will publish lists of all businesses — regulated or not — that have spent advertising dollars with them, as well as the names of regulated businesses that have not, “in a plan of accountability,” Pierce said.

“If companies can draw revenue out of our community, they can do business with us to bring commerce into it,” he said.

IF YOU DON'T ADVERTISE WITH MY COMPANY WE WILL RUIN YOU!!

Holy crap.

FYI, NOLA.com article celebrates this.

Media companies owned by black people.

Like, for instance, the radio station Wendell Pierce happens to own. He wants them dollars, and he's not afraid to use race to extort it out of businesses.

Sounds like a bunch of businesses want in on a gravy train they either aren’t competent enough or connected enough to get on their own.

They are 13% of the national population so to be equal they should be in 13% of commercials, 13% of jobs ect.. not 80% of everything.

Are these companies supposed to know what color all the media company owners are? Maybe if there was an up to date list with race and sexual orientation of all media company owners it would go a long way to alleviating this injustice.

Or maybe we can just take the money from the companies and let a panel put together by the city decide where to invest these media dollars.

This should be fun.

If his radio station caters to a lower class black audience, then he isn’t going to be getting as money from high end luxury companies because that audience doesn’t have the disposable cash needed unless they are in the game.

It's a Mafia level protection scheme. Jesse Jackson was running this scam way back in the 80's, though. It's now just becoming mainstream.

Lol only black people get to have their own media. Imagine if white people had media that was obviously white only and they made an effort to show it.

If you dropped a foreigner who had never consumed American media and had them watch TV for a few days they’d swear black folk were 50% of our population

A few years back I asked my wife what she thought the racial makeup of the country was, and she thought it was close to 50/50 black and white

I would be willing to bet a ton of people who live in the south and have never looked at the racial demographic statistics would think the same thing.
