I feel bad for the children. Druggie families take wonderful kids and just destroy their lives. I have no sympathy for junkies that create and add on to this cycle of abuse.

It had nothing to do with whether or not he was a pillar of the community. I can't speak for everyone, but I think people was just trying to help a family bury a loved one, however; people started to question the motive.
People probably didn't feel comfortable giving to someone who was possibly an addict and was having a mental meltdown because he didn't seem to be in the right condition to handle the money that was raised. But spin it however you want.

I wouldn't care at all about a past. I care about the present, and the present is that it is very clear he is on a bender and very clear his family members are trying to get their hands on the money. The present is that it is a very real possibility this dude does enough heroin to kill himself and leave his children with two dead parents.
There is a difference in someone having a criminal past needing help vs. someone currently in the midst of a drug binge asking for money.

Saying he is on a bender is pure speculation. I've seen many people (myself included) melt down due to stress/shock and it had nothing to do with drugs.
His ramblings here seem more lack of sleep/stress induced than heroine use to me. Heroine doesn't typically make people lose their minds the way this old boy seems too.
If you are upset because you donated to a stranger thinking they are some upstanding citizen then by all means withdraw your donation. Dude is obviously going through the worst time in his life right now and my donation will remain in the GFM.
