Where were all these people 20-25 years ago? I never saw this many people panhandling back in the 90s. I can't go to any gas station in any city now without getting hit up 70% of the time. I told my wife the other night that it was matter of time before they start going into the neighborhoods knocking on doors.

For one of the most Catholic cities in the state, this seems like a harsh position from the mayor. It seems as if Lafayette fancies itself as the land of milk n honey, where superficialness and pretentiousness are more important than actually caring about down and out people. It is not as if you see them on every street corner.

Get serious…. There are more Catholic and Protestant charities in South Louisiana than you can shake a stick at, as well as other services by the state. They do more to take care of people in need than anyone really knows, but this panhandling garbage is not about people in need, but people who have addiction issues to feed, and people with mental issues, and still others who are con artists and practicing their craft.

NOBODY, including myself, in this area especially, a people that will quite literally give the shirt off their back to people in need wants to see ANYONE suffer and go without basic needs. Nobody!!! That’s not what this is about.

you're the one that said LSU playing in the Superdome.. that happens in bowl games.
Thanks for proving my point, you're an idiot.

Yes, that is right, LSU generally plays bowl games or Natty's in the Superdome. But, remember Hurrican Harvey-
LSU-BYU game to be moved from Houston to Superdome in New Orleans. That was not a bowl game and happened in 2017.

I have been to most of the bowls games in the dome when LSU was playing.

Lighten up, don't be so negative. I never bashed anyone. Where is the joie de'vivre.

My point is what other cities of similar size are using a special detail to crack down on panhandlers. It seems overkill considering there are more serious problems facing the community.

I love Lafayette but we have a growing soy problem. Police Chief is doing the right thing.

You are defending beggars? I simply cannot see that side of the argument.

Dude is generous. He'd give beggars the shirt off your back.
