For those who know who I’m talking about. He posted a video today of his injuries from shooting a slap round in his 50 cal. The video don’t show any gore, just right after the gun exploded.
Dude is lucky, his jugular was cut and lost about 5 units of blood. Had other injuries also.

YouTube.

That's about as exciting as that channel has been in a very long time.

Was the barrel blocked or something? WTF happened? Bad round?

Supposedly it was a hot round. I’m assuming someone reloaded it and added way too much powder.

Gun manufacturer's guess is it was 30k psi over normal chamber pressure for the round.

That’s not the best factor of safety. If something 40% over nominal is that catastrophic I’d want a better design. That threaded closure needs to be fixed before anyone dies. Should he a bayonet lock or something similar.

I remember watching the Kentucky Ballistics when they were part of the old ABA.

That was pretty nuts. The ear going thru his hat is about as lucky as a man can get.

Damn. The guy was extremely lucky.

How does a round get "hot"?

Too much powder. I’ve never reloaded so that’s what I assume.
Those rounds are old and are not made anymore. They were surplus so I’m guessing people had reloaded them. Supposedly they are around 100 dollars apiece.

Shitload more powder in it than there should be is my guess. Dude is crazy lucky and those safety glasses saved his eye.

Wrong powder, too much powder, a couple different ways.

I believe he said these were factory loaded rounds that are no longer made. Could be the reason why.

I believe affordability was behind the design. In Scott’s case, it apparently boils down to firing a hot round. Sometimes shite happens. Kind of the risk of messing with unique ammo.
