seeing a 7 yr old have to start over in a new place, in a new school with NO friends and being treated like an outsider because of something that was completely out of their control was a helluva lot harder to deal with than losing my big screen.

I never thought about it that way for all of the little kids that were transplanted.

Don't bother with that guy. He's been a terrible poster his entire 23 days here.

Traumatized? This is the most ridiculous shite ever.

Alot of people were traumatized. Especially the elderly and young kids. I know alot of perfectly healthy people in their late 70's and early 80's that didnt make a year before they died. Sure old people die, but alot who lost everything just lost the will to live.

Also a good friend of ours had a 6 year old. Was perfectly healthy, she started having seizures in the hotel she evacuated to. They happended for about 1 year. She has had 0 since then. I don't think that is a coincidence.

Yes, and there are still many other reasons that people would legitimately disagree with what you posted. Of course New Orleans (metro area at least) as a whole is "better," there are still many families and areas that are no where near back to where they were, much less better.

I undertand this but my comment was not directed towards indivduals it was directed towards N.O. I believe N.O. is far better off post Katrina.

I wouldn't say I am traumatized but I do think back on it.
Lots of shite would be very different for me and my family.

People seem to forget what Rita did to the other side of the state shortly after Katrina...The cities and towns affected were not New Orleans and the people there began to clean and fix up their own property and not wait for any handouts.... But no one talks about right? I personally had to rescue people by boat cause they were trapped in their homes.. It was not a pretty sight... Homes lost due to complete flooding just like New Orleans...but lot less media attention
hell people dont talking about Mississippi after katrina where houses from the beach highway to 2 to 3 blocks in were just foundations. I think both areas should gotten more coverage than they did. But poor black people screaming for help is better tv.

That we don't know where we would be had the storm not hit and that a silver lining can generally be found. I choose to see the glass as half full because of the opportunities and economic growth that have resulted from the storm.

It's just a useless comment. I could say that you don't know that your situation is definitely better than what it currently is had Katrina not happened, and it'd be just as pointless (while still being true).

I started college a week or so before it happened. It was surreal but I didn't experience it first hand. The relocation of my family was tough but I think we've all recovered. I know people who didn't, though, including our well known family doctor who committed suicide after
