K time is a way for employers to get away with granting employees a form of OT without actually having to pay it. “K time” is time off that you can’t actually ever take because you’d get too behind on your work to take it.
Conservatives tried to sell this crap to Missourians. Claiming all the time you could use, instead of getting OT.
You could have enough KT time to take a month off, if you did a lot of OT.
Then the disclaimer came out, as Unions read the fine print, they don't have to give it to you, if they can claim, they cannot afford to let you off. There were so many options for Companies to claim they couldn't give it to you, that you would NEVER see it. LOLOLOLOL

Or it can be saved as an extra check at retirement
So it’s tax deferred earnings. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

he employees cash it in when they qualify for retirement. They get a lump sum, with deductions for taxes.
That’s 100% inaccurate.

Each state agency has a policy regarding the paying out of K-time as it pertains to employees retiring/separating. However, they must follow FLSA rules. A ‘non-exempt’ employee (earns OT at the 1.5 rate) must be paid out all of their K-time balances upon exiting state service, regardless of the reason. An ‘exempt’ employee (earns OT at the straight rate) isn’t entitled to receiving a pay out of their K-time. However, it can be paid out at the discretion of the agency. No state employee can convert K-time into service credit for retirement purposes. Also, an exempt employee doesn’t have to be compensated K-time for working OT. They are essentially a salaried employee, but most state agencies choose to compensate them.

Two questions, are you a cop? and do you work in Webster parish? I have k time and I too hate it. Eventually when I retire I will cash in on some big money if I don't burn mine.

If you're smart you can game the shite out of a comp time system.
Arrive 13 minutes early. Work through lunch. Stay 13 minutes late.
That's almost a day and a half added into your ktime weekly.
If you did it for a year, and didn't take leave, that's 70 days off on hand.
Do it right, you always use prime instead of vacation and you retire years early.
Or you just take loooong holidays for every holiday and vacations when you want.
