It's not a black thing, blacks in this city can care less whether these monuments are up or down. It's a majority liberal city in a very conservative state, that happens to be a huge destination city for events and conventions - so on a national perspective I can see having them up is kind of gray. Mitch really does not care if it's going to piss off a bunch locals from near by parishes and states who don't really contribute much to the city as a whole.

People who may live in places like BR, Lafayette or Jackson and have second residence here are not going to sell their NOLA residence over this.

You don't think people from Jefferson/St. Tammany spend a good deal amount of money in Orleans parish? I'd love for a business to move from Orleans to just over the parish line, build the biggest building possible, just to thumb their nose at that shite city.

you don't pay orleans parish property taxes you don't complain about these statues, imo.

You might want to tell that to Take Em Down Nola...I don't think many of their members are paying Orleans property taxes.

That would be great - any kind of economic development on the south shore is a win, even if it's Jefferson Parish. Know why? because people will still be wanting entertain in nola.

A friend of mine who claims to be in the know said they are reconsidering taking it down tonight because of the crowd out there. Apparently, it wasn't supposed to "leak" that it was coming down tonight...

Would be a dumbass move to have all these precautions including things like snipers, then also an email saying it is ok to have the school open as usual.

Even worse to cancel classes with just a couple hours notice for the parents.

Those of you that do nothing about Landrieu and his ilk will regret it. They are going to come for the Tiger nickname at LSU sooner than later, and you had best be deciding what you will call your sports teams in the future. If they don't declare them barbaric and eliminate them.

Saints will have to go too, we can't have religious references, and you KNOW the NFL will cave.

Getting close to 3 and it's still up, but a ton of people have showed up.

With the police force being as understaffed as it is, I wonder how protected the rest of the city is while this army of police guards the statue removal.

The live stream starts with a commercial for Crime Stoppers detailing NOLA violence. We can't stop crime...but we'll get those statues, dammit.

I guess when the government is doing the job nobody wears a harness in (or out) of the manlift.

You'd be escorted out of the gate at any plant I've ever been to.
