You don't hear anyone talking about the murder rate, the bad streets or the understaffed police / fire department.

And once they are all gone, then what? Back to the normal try not to get killed in NOLA arguments? This truly baffles me how New Orleans can come up with the money for this, but not anything else.

I completely agree with you...but that's the "thought process" behind Mitch and his mindless minions. Yet, folks continue to wonder why a city that has a world class food / music / entertainment scene which gives it the capability to be great...continues to slide into Detroit / Jackson status.
ETA: New Orleans got a crapload of FEMA money...but Chocolate City guy funneled a lot of it away. I guess that Mitch found a way to use the rest of it for those "private donations."

If it is on city property then it is none of my business.
If it is on state property then people of this state should have a say and if the state feels it needs to come down that should be a state decision.
Now as far as having extra state police covering New Orleans we need to pull them out. The state especially in hard money times should never even think of opening an extra troop in the French quarter. They should only get the same service the rest of the state gets and nothing extra.

you don't pay orleans parish property taxes you don't complain about these statues, imo
So only the male property owners should be able to have a say? I like it.

Saints will have to go too, we can't have religious references, and you KNOW the NFL will cave.
Are we suppose to still be mad at the Washington Redskins?

"This morning we continue our march to reconciliation by removing the Jefferson Davis Confederate statue from its pedestal of reverence," Landrieu said.

Just take a look at that street corner now....nothing.
Other city streets around the country have nothing and that's why they are not unique.
New Orleans is changing into "just another city" right in front of our eyes.

Get ready for MLK BLVD and Arthur Ash Square, and Harriett Tubman Circle. All attuned with horrible, rushed sculpture monuments.
