New Orleans lawyer Nicole Burdett, co-defendant in the tax fraud case against Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams, was arrested Wednesday in Baton Rouge by the Louisiana attorney general’s office, according to an arrest document.

Burdett’s attorney Mike Magner confirmed that his client turned herself in to authorities Wednesday morning and was released on her own recognizance a short time later.

TIL the LA Attorney General's office has arrest powers.

quote:

Magner confirmed that Burdett self-surrendered after hearing that an arrest warrant was issued related to Medicaid fraud.

In a statement, Magner wrote, “Ms. Burdett vehemently denies these allegations which stem from a miscommunication when she was transitioning her children to private health insurance. We are hopeful that when the Attorney General‘s office understands the full facts of the matter that they will decline prosecution in this matter. The AG‘s office has offered to meet with us in the very near future and we believe that we will be able to explain this unfortunate misunderstanding.”

One would think the AG's office would want to meet with the defendant to get her side of the story BEFORE making an arrest... but I don't know.

Not all AG offices are the same. Too many of them are political activists now instead of protect and serve.

The only good news for the defendants is that J. Landry is still the A.G. With Landry in charge of the prosecution, the defendant always has a fighting chance.

Feel like she’s getting more attractive with each picture. She’ll be an OT10 by page 4.

I don't really understand what the frick is going on with all this, but if it somehow results in Jason Williams being ripped from power, then hold nothing back. Let's go. shite.

If they have the goods on her that's unnecessary. She gets time to tell her side in court. That being said, anyone who continues working with Jason Williams after the list of crimes he would refuse to prosecute as DA, and the shite show he's got going on in Orleans, needs to go directly to fricking Angola.

If anything like here, AG Medicaid fraud unit will utilize civil investigative demands and when they show up they already know the story like the feds.

They are law partners and had an accountant prepare taxes for them and supposedly there are tons of unallowed losses they claimed. The feds found the accountant had his own issues so they flipped him to star witness. They tried to flip Nicole and she told them to pound sand, so she's on trial with him.

Now supposedly she's being accused of something to do with putting her kids on medicaid and it being fraudlent.

Why would one think that? Do you think the state AG’s office didn’t use its considerable investigative powers to get the goods prior to the arrest?
