Clearly I understand why it’s an issue to blackball them from shopping centers but stealing a burrito recipie is hilarious to me. It’s like stealing an omelet recipie

And fried chicken is just chicken and flour...

It wasn't the 'burrito recipe'. It was the entire BOOK of recipes for Izzos. That's a big deal. I'm no fan of Izzos but I see why they'd be pissed.
Everything is in there from queso, pico, salsa, guacamole, marinates, prep and cooking specs for the meats.
That's pretty significant and protected by non-compete agreements(i know hardly enforceable but everyone uses them).

Exactly. People are acting like it's a recipe like:
Fill tortilla
Roll tortilla

But everyone knows the recipes. They point through the spit shield and "cook" their burrito.

Bump to trash Chipotle. Just had my first and last burrito from there. Terrible.

Moes and izzos kick the shite out of Chipotle or Qdoba. Never had freebirds though.

No shite. If Rouses successfully kept them out of 7-10 shopping centers over several years. That would not be far-fetched to quantify it at ~$10m revenue lost over that many restaurants' estimated life of 10-15 yrs.

None of that stuff is complicated to cook either. Have you ever made guac? You crush an avocado and add lime and salt. Queso is melted cheese. Pico is a very basic and easy thing to make as well. Maybe there's some kind of proprietary recipe for their hot sauce. That's the only thing that I can imagine there being some "secret" to. Yes, it pretty much is just filling a tortilla. The idea of stealing the recipe for a burrito restaurant is kind of funny. Tex Mex is some of the easiest stuff to cook out there.

So what you're saying is every restaurant's salsa, queso, guac, etc tastes exactly the same? Tex Mex is easy to make so why don't we just have one Mexican chain period?
No, each restaurant has their own recipes they've created. Stealing those recipes, using them as your own, and then telling developers not to allow the person you stole them from to open up shop is ridiculous.

Again, this argument is as foolish as claiming KFC has no leg to stand on protecting their recipe by saying "fried chicken is easy, just throw some flour and spices in a bowl to coat chicken and fry it"
Spanish Rice
Cilantro Lime Rice
Grilled Chicken marinade
Grilled Steak Marinade
Ground Beef Seasoning
Multiple Bean varieties
2-3 Salsas at least
Queso etc...
Just because you believe Tex Mex is easy to cook doesn't mean all of those above and the methodology behind are not protected intellectual property.

Trying to keep Izzos out of certain shopping centers is most definitely illegal and most definitely serious shite.
Maybe not! Apparently if a developer signs a "reciprocal easement agreements, or REA", an anchor store can control who can open a store.

Bloomberg
This is the tactic being used by Best Buy, Target and other Big Box stores to keep Amazon and Whole oods out.

Not a lawyer, but I believe the difference between a REA and this is they did not block a category of store (Tex-mex), but a SPECIFIC tenant (Izzos).

I can get Whole Foods not wanting another anchor to be Alexander's or Calandros.
I don't see how Izzo's competes with Rouses in any way (unless they copied Izzo's burrito bar) - certainly not enough to justify pushing them out of a massive shopping center like Juban Crossing. That's especially odd since they allowed Moe's into Juban Crossing.
I'm not sure about the other claims, but that one looks like a bullshite move by Rouses.

Could be the case. I'm only aware of this due to the Amazon/Whole Foods merger causing heartburn with Best Buy. I'm not a lawyer either, so I really don't know.
