$48M can sound right, but i seriously doubt we'd only get a $4M revenue from property taxes. that doesn't sound right.
SG would get nothing from property taxes unless they vote for one on themselves. All property taxes are dedicated to one entity or another. The Sheriff collects all those property taxes and distributed the revenues to each entity depending on how much us collected.
There would not be any property tax revenue for the city of SG unless things change.

I think they need to split the metro council form of government up.
The city of BR and the parish form of government needs to be separated

I'm annoyed that OP says "UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM OF OP" but this is LIE!

The experts have been testifying in court all last week and part of this week. City experts and SG experts. I suspect there was more than a “napkin” placed on the record as evidence.
I agree, but you got to admit the organizational optics aren’t that great for a future city with 90k people.
Has the race card been played? Cause SG don’t look so good in that area either.

Or, if this is really about "Together BR" why hasn't BR annexed all of the unincorporated areas?
Yeah. We wouldn't be having this discussion if Baton Rouge had done that over the past several decades.
But they didn't. And they have no business dictating what happens to unincorporated areas outside their boundaries.

Following the 2020 census the SG area is close to 50/50. What else you got?

You’ve got the mayor-president of EBR Parish, the crowd that put her in office, the Democrat Party, the local media carrying her water versus some guys who wanted a better school system and you are criticizing the optics????
These good citizen fought against overwhelming odds and won the election to make SG a city. They have done great considering they have no tax dollars just grassroot support..
Trying to minimize their efforts doesn’t compute. To date these guys are winners.

Found the guy who still reads the advocate.

Worse yet, reads it and believes what he reads.

Even being very generous to EBRSO and anti-BR, BR is likely providing at least 30 million of the Sheriff's Office budget of ~100 million per year. Let's send that money to BRPD's budget instead.
I’d be all for that, if they abolish the city/parish form of government and BR Stopped using the EBRSO for tax collection, court security, etc.
Posted on 5/10/22 at 6:18 pm to td1
If that happens, BR either needs to relinquish commercial areas they aren’t servicing or pay EBRSO an appropriate amount for doing so.
Don’t annex shite you have no plans on servicing.

True. The Sheriff patrols L’auberge and SGFD served Siegen Village and the Mall.
BR covets the taxes.

The annexations after the vote aren't legal and will be over turned.
Posted on 5/10/22 at 7:03 pm to jbgleason
If I live in the BR city limits can I stop paying property taxes for a Sheriffs Department I can’t use? And how is it that an incorporated city of STG will be able to continue to use the Sheriff’s office as their de facto police department but not Baton Rouge, whose residents also pay for that service?
Also all unincorporated areas and cities can vote for the Mayor President of Baton Rouge but not the other way around? Although, this might not be such a bad thing…but It is still a bunch of nonsense.

You use the sheriff’s office every time you pay property taxes. Who do you think runs the court and jail. Patrol is just hobby for them.

Then de-consolidate the city parish government.
Other parishes like Ascension have the parish sheriff as the primary law enforcement in a number of areas. In fact, they had to take over Sorrento’s jurisdiction after the Sorrento’s PD was unable to find an insurance carrier willing to cover them.

That's because we have a consolidated city/parish government. The Mayor-President is the Chief Executive Officer of both the City and Parish, and is elected by the qualified voters of the Parish.

They don’t patrol in St. George? That’s should be comforting to all those St. Georgians.
