Rumors a few years ago was that he saw what was going on (or the extent of it) and decided to resign. Take it for what it's worth and no I'm not catholic.

That is a bad idea going down that path. Glorifying lust, greed, etc.. is not the best idea.

I am not a man to preach about the evils of such as I have my own flaws but justifying following Osteen strictly on the basis of wealth or popularity is not my idea of spiritual enlightenment.

Unfortunately the pope is just one man and relies on the more than 5,000 bishops to police their individual dioceses and root out priests who are actively committing the crime of pedophilia. Sadly there are bishops out there who think it best to transfer the priest to a different parish and keep the incident on the DL.

Actually Benedict is the one who was assigned Vigano to investigate the Vatican financials and Cardinal McCarrick in the US.

Benedict put sanctions on McCarrick which Francis lifted when he became pope. That is when Vigano went public with McCarrick abuses and then Francis had to reverse course and remove McCarrick.

They can directly trace the cover up of child rape , molestation to him.
These people rather hide the fact that they're priest are rapist. He just moved them to a different parish and the problem will go away.
I'm sorry to all the good priest out there, but this is a stain on catholicism that can never be washed out.
The cardinals and bishops allowed and voted for a man to allow predators to keep preaching the word of God as opposed to exposing them. He is no better then an a child rapist

Benedict was going to do this a lot - but plenty of the other cardinals didn’t like that - and he was threatened and ‘decided’ to resign
