Justify a wrong by bringing up another wrong? How old are you lol? I know my history; the shite that they dilute in high school text books. I don't need a white man telling me what happened to my forefathers. I know the aftermath after doing extensive research on my lineage.

"White" privelege is not a thing.

I agree that what's often called white privilege is often better explained by other forms of privilege. But if it's never a thing, how would you explain racial bias in police shootings?

quote:

Abstract

A geographically-resolved, multi-level Bayesian model is used to analyze the data presented in the U.S. Police-Shooting Database (USPSD) in order to investigate the extent of racial bias in the shooting of American civilians by police officers in recent years. In contrast to previous work that relied on the FBI’s Supplemental Homicide Reports that were constructed from self-reported cases of police-involved homicide, this data set is less likely to be biased by police reporting practices. County-specific relative risk outcomes of being shot by police are estimated as a function of the interaction of: 1) whether suspects/civilians were armed or unarmed, and 2) the race/ethnicity of the suspects/civilians. The results provide evidence of a significant bias in the killing of unarmed black Americans relative to unarmed white Americans, in that the probability of being {black, unarmed, and shot by police} is about 3.49 times the probability of being {white, unarmed, and shot by police} on average. Furthermore, the results of multi-level modeling show that there exists significant heterogeneity across counties in the extent of racial bias in police shootings, with some counties showing relative risk ratios of 20 to 1 or more. Finally, analysis of police shooting data as a function of county-level predictors suggests that racial bias in police shootings is most likely to emerge in police departments in larger metropolitan counties with low median incomes and a sizable portion of black residents, especially when there is high financial inequality in that county. There is no relationship between county-level racial bias in police shootings and crime rates (even race-specific crime rates), meaning that the racial bias observed in police shootings in this data set is not explainable as a response to local-level crime rates.

I find humor in the fact that the same demographic that is always screaming "snitches get stitches" when police are trying to help their communities lock up killers is the same one doing all the #BLM bullshite

You can't have it both ways, do your lives matter or not?

Horrible comparison. Apples and fricking oranges. Now let me ask you, how long did the industrial revolution last versus the institution of slavery in this country you disingenuous piece of shite.

Whites make up around 60% of the population and account for 50% of the deaths at the hands of police.

African americans make up around 12% of the population and account for roughly 20% of the fatal shootings by police.

However, African Americans account for around 70% of the violent and property crimes in the nation, and account for 80% of the fatal shootings of police by civilians.

Any racial bias by police is merely a result of the difference in how often African Americans necessitate contact with police officers. They commit more crimes and thus encounter police more frequently. Even then, despite the massive disparity in frequency of contact and crimes, the number of African Americans shot by police relative to other races is not nearly as large of a disparity.

Police officers are still 10 times more likely to be shot to death by an African American civilian than they would be to kill an African American civilian.

A white civilian is still at least 5 times more likely to be killed by a black person than a white person.

A black person is over 10 times more likely to be killed by a black person than any white person.

The numbers simply do not match the narrative in any way, shape, or form. If white people and police have a fear of African American males between the ages of 15 and 40, that fear is statistically justified.

Haha, this country can't even pay off its deficit, so you think I'm holding my breath for reparations to my family for what was stolen from our ancestors? See one thing I've always realized is racist white people's love for money far outweighs their hatred for blacks. I would have greater odds of being treated like Emmitt Till than getting a check for wages stolen from my forefathers.

Why should someone now be compensated for something their ancestors did you ask. Well, that's a stupid question, but I'll gladly answer it for you. They should be compensated because there are white families still today that are benefitting from the money that there ancestors acquired through the institution of slavery. Do you not understand the concept of wage theft?

So what do you propose be done? Give $1M to the 40 million Black Americans in this country? And how would the money be acquired? Through taxes? Becuase that would mean that everyone, whites and none whites included, would have to pay even though a significant portion of them had ancestors that didn't own slaves.

But that explanation doesn't work, given the last sentence of the abstract.

Even if what you say were 100% true, however, that would still constitute white privilege, because a white person's experience of crime enormously improves simply due to the color of their skin and luck of birth.

Frankly, I'm tired of hearing about reparations. Women for several generations were passed over when it came to property/inheritance because of their sex. They couldn't take a credit card out on their own until the mid-70s. 1970s. And yet, there's been no request for the return of their property or money. shite happens. Get over it, move on, and start working for improving your situation now instead of expecting reparations from the past.

Usually stats would be a good indicator of whichever point you're trying to prove... However, in this situation I think that there are so many unwritten variables in each situation that in this case, they might not be as conclusive as the numbers provided

If that makes any sense

Word. Franklin Douglas teamed up with the women's movement until he saw it as a losing effort. Think about that for a minute. He dropped them the moment he realized their movement was dragging the black movement down.

I have read most of the thread. Most folks are rational and have legitimate gripes. One person said they didn't want to get waited on by the staff is a restaurant based on the color of their skin.

Let me reframe this. Did anyone ever consider that folks are acting based on personal experience and not institutional racism? In other words, does anyone believe that the wait staff would have a problem waiting on someone if they believed based on experience they would have a good experience?

If they wait on 20 different tables that have folks wearing Atlanta Falcons jerseys and they have a bad experience do you think they'd be hesitant to wait on table 21? Is it because they hate Atlanta or the Falcons? Probably not, their experience has taught them they might have a bad experience based on observable common characteristics.

I was in the Army with a guy from Washington state. He was a Yakima Indian that could pass for a white guy. The first black guy he had ever met was in basic. When I met him I got to hear him lecture me about how backwards the south was for treating black people poorly and being discriminatory. I had to listen to this for about three months. After that he never said another word. In fact this guy became a racist. He did this based on his personal experiences based on how he was treated.

I had several black guys I had never laid eyes on in my life try to drown me in the wave pool at Blue Bayou water park. It was right when it opened and it was packed. They circled around me on rafts and grabbed me and held me under.

Am I Predjudiced? Nope, everyone of my neighbors are black and are some of the finest folks I've ever met. Folks like to think that poor treatment is only one sided. I'm sure folks could tell story after story of being ignored in places of business by folks of other races. it happens to everyone regardless of race.

The world is full of assholes. They need to be recognized as just that, Singular assholes in a world of really good people.

Like what variables? Seems to me that any way you shake those numbers, people who are white (like myself) are pretty lucky.
