We really haven’t had too many struggles the past 30 years relative to what the world faced regularly up until the 60s.

Constant and massive wars involving millions of troops and rationing at home. Sever economic depressions and extended resource shortages.

We have more conveniences available to us now at low cost than ever before. 60+ years ago a microwave was a luxury. I think people in general are way too comfortable. Not that that isn’t a certain type of blessing but I feel like it is setting us up for catastrophic failure if we don’t have smaller challenges presented to us. Like a body who never experiences the outside world and therefore never develops any immunities to serious diseases.

Is this something that will ultimately make people more resilient?

No. We are creating a generation of children scared of germs and socializing

I've discussed this with people before and no....the opposite.

Katrina was a hardship that made us stronger. If you wanted to make it, you busted your arse to rebuild your house, rebuild your buisness and carve out a life anywhere and by any means while you did those..... I saw the true strength of my family in those moments.

With COVID, the only option we are being given is to stop, do nothing and wait for help. Very few people have been striving for BETTER.... if anything most businesses have used this as an excuse to offer sub-par service. Businesses that have been destroyed have no recourse. There is no work hard and overcome.... there is just nothing.

I see no evidence of this at all, at least not regarding humanity writ large. Well, I guess it depends on how far out your "ultimately" spans.

Just saw a post on IG from an artist I follow that says "we are on our way to lose our freedom, and be grateful for it".

Why are all artists so fricking stupid?

It's made society even weaker.
People are content to sit inside and wallow.
The damage to kids is incalculable.

Quite the opposite of making us stronger. It's building fear in millions of people and will ultimately make them weaker. A whole generation of kids will grow up thinking every little bump in the road will be a massive issue. It boggles my mind how many healthy people are terrified of covid.

A disease with a 99% survival rate doesn’t even come close to what we went thru in the post-9/11 world. Most of the “struggle” we are enduring is created by government. If they weren’t so involved we would be treating this like a bad flu season.

My wife has forbidden me from expressing my opinion in conversations with friends or acquaintances. My opinion is this is “mother nature’s” way of thinning the herd, survival of the fittest type of thing.I hate to see people I know die but we’re all going to die sooner or later anyway. What I see many elderly people go through to keep breathing ,sooner might be better.I know personally I don’t want to live past the point I have no quality of life.

No, it won’t make us stronger.

The things that make us stronger require action. You have to do something. In WW2, perhaps that was growing a victory garden. Or walking, instead of driving.

With the virus, the government has outlawed basic human social behaviors, and has made us all prisoners. Both in public and in private settings.

This may damage us, and it may damage our culture long term, it won’t make us stronger though.

i can point to all of the biggest events in the last 100 years or so and see the bright side and strength of people coming out the other side.

Great Depression
WWII
Civil Rights
Cold War
9/11
2008 stock market crash.

in 2020 we're celebrating people cowering in their homes and assigning virtue to politicians who force us to change our lives while they are not.

i'm not saying it's not real and it's not a deadly virus. i'm just saying that we're telling people they're being patriotic and brave by staying at home, losing their jobs, and wearing masks.

I hope so. So far all it has done is reveal that one side is completely willing to be led unquestioningly like lemmings, while the other side is willing to bitch and moan but not actually do anything. Total apathy and ambivalence on both sides because the internet, while it exacerbates things for some of the nuttier people out there, generally serves as a release valve for most to just bitch and feel good about it afterwards (like I just did here.)

Covid seems to be about 3 times deadlier than the flu. Sure, thats not great, but those numbers dont warrant what we have done to millions upon millions in this country. Lockdowns have not, and WILL NOT work.

I work for the Fed and I have worked every day uninterrupted since all this began. You people acting like its Mad Max out there and we should all hunker down need a cold hard dose of fricking reality.

This isn't a struggle. This is government imposed tyranny on weak people.

Realizing that life must go on. Resilience must come from within.
