Haven't laid brick, but was a helper with a buddy on some concrete jobs one summer. Those MFers earn every single dollar they make. I don't know if they're the most intelligent people out there, but regardless, they have my respect for waking up every day and really earning their dollars.

Somedays I would trade all my success in the corporate space to just be a framer or construction guy ripping cigs all days and then leaving the work at work when it's quitting time.

The better question is what does it say about you that you have to ask this.

Bricklayer, plant baw, garbage man, etc. none of them are trashy. Living on my taxes when you don’t need too is trashy.

Yeah, that's why one of the greatest minds world history, the man who stood up to Hitler when they begged him to surrender, was proud to be a bricklayer.

That's funny. I worked with a guy back in the late '80s who was working full time to put himself through college at UAH as a CE major.
(One of the premier engineering schools in the country). He left the company (auto repair) I was with to work with a local tile layer. Got his BS in Chemical Engineering, took 6+ years. Ended up going into his own tile business, sold it a few years ago and basically retired to piddle with what he wanted to do part time for pocket money. Never used that degree for anything other than the general knowledge it gave him.

Why would that be trashy? I worked for a brick mason the summer after I graduated HS. I didn’t lay brick (I wasn’t experienced enough for the boss and that was ok), I just toted bricks and mixed mortar. They made great money and were good at what they did. Sure, there are trashy brick masons, but a brick mason that knows what he is doing is a beautiful thing to watch.

Shite no. They make very good money when they are good at it.

And no one is gonna be cheap because that’s one of those jobs that i can promise you don’t want to do it and they will and so you will gladly pay their cost

Absolutely not. Nothing but respect for a man who makes an honest living doing good work like masonry.

Catching Bricks

Jerry Rice’s father was a bricklayer and his father made him work with him. Jerry had huge hands that were like a vice from catching bricks all day.

Also, I respect a hard working bricklayer more than these guys with degrees in Wokeness any day.

Your job doesn’t make you trashy. The way you behave does. I will never think less of anyone trying to make an honest living.
