BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Officials over at Visit Baton Rouge have launched a survey, to try and see what can be done to make the Red Stick more attractive to visitors from out of state.

“We recognize that we’re not going to be a New Orleans, but we do compete with cities like Mobile, Shreveport, Little Rock, Jackson, Mississippi, and Knoxville,” said Paul Arrigo, the head of Visit Baton Rouge.

Visit Baton Rouge officials sent out a survey to more than a thousand folks including stakeholders, visitors, and community members, to see how they can improve marketing Baton Rouge as a destination for tourists.
“What are some actions that we need to look at when it comes to improving what we have, what are our assets, and what are some of our liabilities,” said Arrigo.

Knoxville doesn't belong with the others. It's at the foot of the Smokies. It gets its draw from that.

Other than LSU-related things? Hmm. Maybe some state capital/legislative related things.

Shreveport and Jackson comparisons... Sounds like such a great idea for a study.

BR is going to be a hotbed of tourists producing their own murder mystery podcast.
edit: Sadvocate, I think I have your lead story.

What exactly does Baton Rouge have to attract tourists?
They certainly aren't coming to see the USS Kidd and Disney on Ice at the River Center, nor are they coming to go to Happy's on 3rd Street. What is the draw except for LSU football four weekends each year?
I hate New Orleans, but at least it has the history and is a walkable city where you can go to well-known restaurants and bars. You may be carjacked and shot, but it at least has the historic draw.
BR also does not have any nearby nature that may draw tourists.
Why would anyone want to come here?

I visited family in December for the holidays, first time back since 2018 maybe?
Loved seeing family, loved it. But I will never go back.
1. That fricking "airport"
2. Like living in The Walking Dead TV s we're series.
3. Almost everything in BR is old and filthy. I felt gross.
Loved seeing my family but the time away from them just me in the city or us in the city together was just awful. Don't know how those who live there do it anymore.
Tourists? Yeah if Euthanasia becomes legal Baton Rouge would be the Vegas of death.

I’ve been studying this for over 40 years and my conclusion is no.
They can just wire me the money for my hard work.

Aren’t going to do jack shite.
Until this city/parish gets leadership that isn’t braindead and spineless, not one fricking thing will improve.

Correct, and Knoxville in and of itself, it not a tourist destination, it's just close to one.

Heck yeah it is! You can go to Sherwood Forest, Burbank, and Shenandoah with ease from your centrally located motel on Airline Hwy.
