As much as the OT hates it, the bicycle is the perfect transportation. Cheap, human powered, efficient. Can't beat it

Bike. Low acquisition cost. Low maintenance cost. Range is as far as you are willing to go. Works in the rain, or you can hop in your 4-runner. You are allowed to ignore all traffic laws (I think) and act like everyone else on the road is the a-hole. You get to wear cool clothes with French words on them that display your donger like a trophy case.

Horses are one of, if not the most important, war weapon in human history.
Mongols had a ton of them, lots of spares. They provided transportation, food, booze, clothing/shelter.
I suspect the a-hole horses and injured ones were more responsible for the food/clothing jobs

Just curious, how much does it cost you annually to keep a horse?

Probably not the perfect mode of transportation when its 100 degrees outside in July-August and you're heading somewhere in a suit

Catamaran sailboat with an outboard motor for emergencies and solar panels for powering stuff on a limited basis.

depends on a lot of factors like:
boarding expenses (do you pay to board him or pasture him at home?)
do you feed him grain or leave him on pasture?
do you supplement pasture with hay/alfalfa?
do you shoe him or leave him barefooted?
Is he prone to colic or hurting himself?
Wormers, vaccines, floating teeth depend on where you buy them or who does it for you.
Are you going to take it places? If so, what type of truck/trailer do you wan t to haul him in?

couple grand a year is easy to spend on just one horse if you keep it at home and have minimal vet bills IME.

Actually is quite possibly the worst. They keel over and die all the time. Literally one of the riskiest financially “investments” you can make. Absolute money pit.
