Also, how can he demand something not listed in the policy be covered?

Do they pay evacuation costs before or after deductible? If you have a $15K deductible and no significant damage, will the insurance pay?

Unless it happened to you. Then you’d be good with it

I don’t think he’s saying that. I think he’s saying the insurance company has to cover evacuation costs even if no formal evacuation order was issued by an authority. He’s not asking them to pay for something they didn’t agree to cover. He’s trying to help policy holders who are

He is bailing out the politicians who made a dumbass decision not to give the evac orders.

It's not a technicality. It's a failure of government.

He's doing nothing more than protecting the government officials who refused to order evacs and screwed over their constituents.

I understand that. But should the incompetence of a government official cause the insured- who bought and paid for that coverage- to be denied their claim?

The policyholder isn’t getting anything extra (that I know of). Seems to me Donelon is trying to hold the insurance companies to their policy coverage while bailing out the politicians.

I wasn’t aware evacuation costs were covered under a homeowners policy. Maybe it is, but I assume the deductible applies.

Who voted for those officials?

They are getting extra, paid benefits under situations that aren’t covered in the policy.

I think it’s bullshite that insurance doesn’t pay out to evac family when your house has no power or water even though there was no mandatory evac, but at the end of the day that is the policy. Him doing this is more government overreach.

And if you were forward-thinking enough to already have these items on hand?

It’s covered under loss of use when a mandatory evacuation is issued since you are being told you have to leave.

Me neither. But I wasn’t aware of coverage for “debris removal” until I found out it existed.

I agree with you in principal on the chain saws and generators. And if this was just More welfare or handouts, I’d be just as disgusted as you seem to be. But I see this as the insurers trying to deny coverage that was bought and paid for in good faith. That’s BS.

I’m no fan of Donelon. But at least he’s trying to clarify that an evacuation was legit- even if local officials were too stupid to issue one.

Que all the insurance companies are crooks threads in six months when more companies pull out and raise rates 50%. For a group of people that deal with insurance maybe more than anyone else on the planet louisianans don’t know shite about it for the most part. No doubt y’all are going blue everybody wants a fricking hand out
