I have some Tecovas boots that I love. Was thinking of getting more. I first bought a pair in fall of 2021 on a bachelor trip.

Those same boots now are $120 more expensive up from $325. That’s insane over only 3 years. They went from being a solid boot for the price to IMO now non competitive in terms of entry level boots. In 2021, outside of their full crocodile boots that were like $1500. I think their most expensive boot was $550 for some alligators. Now their caiman boots are pricier than that.

Dont get me wrong they’re great and I’m glad I caught them when they were still relatively cheap. But damn they’ve probably priced me out of being a customer. I’m sure a lot of people feel the same but I guess somebody is buying them.

It’s refreshing to see someone bringing up inflation. It simply hasn’t been talked about enough on here.

The Nolan’s. Their lizard cowboy boot. Got them for $325 in September of 2021. I think they’re $450 now.

Same with the cartrights. Got a pair from my wife maybe in early 2023 for $275. Now they’re like $350.

I have good news and bad news for you.

Good news: you won’t be worrying about inflation much longer.

Bad news: you will be worrying about stagflation very soon.

Do you feel Tecovas have grown in popularity over the past 5+ years?

I remember in.. Maybe civics class in HS included in the definition was something like "and it is likely to never happen" or something like that. I just remember that being a key point of the definition. That was over 20 years ago and I still remember that, I wonder if that part has changed?

Yes. So I’m sure that plays a role. Like getting in before something got too big.

But they also aren’t even selling their flagship austin alligator boot right now. I have to think that’s because they can’t deliver it to market in an affordable way even if they’re hiking prices due to demand.

So, stop thinking.

Tecovas have been the consomate affordable $99.00 boot for 10 years, in our mind. But, inflation? That's like wondering why Tito's vodka is going up since the days it started in an Austin garage.

I saw on twitter someone posted the price of milk in California. $20 for a gallon of milk.

Dr. Pepper Zero is $12 for a 12 pack. I'm now relegated to drinking Dr. Thunder along with the poors simply out of principle.

What are you arguing here? Be specific. That inflation is imaginary?

They’re decent boots and they were almost exclusively all I owned. Went to their store in Austin for a new size and walked into the Allen’s Bootstore next door. They had a Tecovas boot cut in half from toe to heel and one of their boots cut the same way for comparison. Half of the damn Tecovas sole was cork filler. This explained why I had walked through the sole of my Tecovas rompers three times. Went with a pair of Allen’s for like $50 more.

All that to say, their convenience is hard to beat, but the quality leaves a lot to be desired.
