“Woke” American Ideas Are A Threat, French Leaders Say

Interesting article. Figured much of the OT would get a kick out of this.

quote:

PARIS — The threat is said to be existential. It fuels secessionism. Gnaws at national unity. Abets Islamism. Attacks France’s intellectual and cultural heritage. The threat? “Certain social science theories entirely imported from the United States,’’ said President Emmanuel Macron. French politicians, high-profile intellectuals and journalists are warning that progressive American ideas — specifically on race, gender, post-colonialism — are undermining their society. “There’s a battle to wage against an intellectual matrix from American universities,’’ warned Mr. Macron’s education minister.

Emboldened by these comments, prominent intellectuals have banded together against what they regard as contamination by the out-of-control woke leftism of American campuses and its attendant cancel culture.

France thinks the US is getting too insane with progressive totalitarian politics, cancel culture, media driven race hysteria, and our soft handling of radical Islamic extremists.

This is a new low for Americans. And they are right. We have the benefit of an ocean separating us from problems that they can’t easily get away from.

It’s ironic that France thinks we’re too progressive because they are generally a more liberal country. It’s ironic that the ideas they are fighting against originate from, you guessed it, France. It’s ironic that a left leaning newspaper like the NYT would cover a story that appears to at least call into question the leftist ideology of many of its readers.

The whole thing is one of the most ironic pieces I’ve ever come across.

Yep.. when it comes to the political rhetoric surrounding race... France is much more grounded than we are generally.. almost shockingly so...

heard a story about 30 years ago from a journalist when they were waiting in line for something in France... basically some black person attempted to break into line and the locals confronted the person so assertively that it shocked the journalist and made them very uncomfortable. It was then that the journalist realized if that had happened in our country most people would have ignored it due to that person being black. It was a moment of revelation for that journalist...

Because undermining western society is the entire point of those theories and ideas.

CRT's ultimate goal is the complete and utter destruction of all western culture. Why? Because it's nothing more than Marxism in a new suit.

I can't say that I disagree with any of that.

Although, it seems France and the rest of Europe beat us to the punch with the insane leftist policies. Our insane lefties are just using their example as a foundation and building crazier ideas and policy in top of their example.

I sincerely wish them success.

Kind of funny since the post-modern bullshite that was allowed to thrive and gave birth to all of this shite was imported from France in the 60's and 70's. I agree with the French here hell just look at the USA we are more divided now then we have been since the end of the Civil War and leftist progressive politics are at the heart or this division. I cant understand why any European country would want to be copying our politics or culture right now.

They probably also got an early start on resisting it too. We should maybe listen.

People make fun of the French, but they have some hard core based citizens and law enforcement officers that aren’t exactly fitting the mold of what people think of Frenchmen. They are more level headed on things like race than we are.

But like the US, their wealthy urban ruling class dominates media and entertainment along with most government policy. THOSE types are hard core globalist that never met a totalitarian left wing policy they didn’t absolutely love.

They shine the spot lights on anything that could help cause a racial divide every election year. They know a lot of African Americans are not as enthusiastic about voting for traditional Democrats anymore. They are terrified that wholesale support for progressive policies aren’t going to be commonplace in the black community. So they have to keep the populace scared, angry, and emotional to drive voter turnout for lackluster candidates like Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden.

This bullshite has caused a lot of damage to race relations in this country. It has seriously set us back decades.

because a black person here would cry racism and threaten to stab or shoot you for not letting them cut in line.

What blew me away in the article was how the French secular government has made it illegal to collect racial data. They do not recognize race at all. You’re either a French citizen or you’re not.

How much different would the USA be if we followed suit?

Yup. That an entire piece was just to look down on those French bigots who are incapable of being as enlightened as progressive woke journalists.

Progressive ALWAYS have to keep progressing simply for the sake of "progress". Their ENTIRE self identity relies upon it. Thus, they don't ever actually conduct anything beyond a surface level analysis of their actions to evaluate any potential negative consequences. They just keep "progressing" because...well...they have to progress. No mater how absurd, illogical, ridiculous, or downright dangerous that progression might be. That's how you end up with utterly ridiculous "crusades" such as the one for "transgender rights"

Where did they come from? I thought all of Derrida, Foucault, Lyotard and Baudrillard were French and the originators of deconstructionism and postmodernism. I’m no expert, though.
