I'm surprised we haven't seen gas station panic buying yet with the pipeline shutdown

The southeastern United States will be the first to see price rises at the pumps due to the supply disruption caused by the shutdown of the country’s top fuel pipeline network - and demand has already picked up as drivers fill their tanks, industry experts said on Sunday.

The attack forced Colonial Pipeline to shut down its entire system on Friday. Some smaller lines were restarted Sunday, but Colonial has given no timeline for the restart of its main pipelines.

DeHaan said drivers should avoid panic buying.

"Rushing out and filling your tank will make the problem much much more acute and likely double or triple the length of any supply event, if it comes to that," he said.

I think I still have PTSD from Dallas a few years ago.

What surprises me is people in refinery towns that panic buy. Pretty sure we will still have fuel in Lake Charles.

I fully expect to see some bitch in an excursion with a bunch of gas cans at the Circle K today.

South LA fine since stations filled directly by a short tanker drive to refinery

The more people that start threads on it the more chance we will have panic buying

If you're near a navigable body of water...you're fine.

It's less efficient, but gasoline/diesel/jet fuel can be moved on the water.

Need to fill up my tank today, but don't want to be seen as panic buying. Any tips?

Should I just end myself now?

I predict if the pipeline is not back up by tomorrow then Wednesday is when we will start to see it. This was just reported on Friday and the vast majority of people don’t follow news that closely. But you can bet as soon as the words “potential shortage” get into the mainstream’s ears there will be a run on gas and probably toilet paper and meat again lol.

Why the hell would the southeast be the first to see prices increase from a pipeline to the NE from the gulf coast being shut down?

My point with Lake Charles is the amount of fuel refined here is ridiculous. The Citgo here alone refines 418,000 barrels per day. Louisiana as a state refines 1/5th of all oil in the USA.

Because the pipeline is a major contributor to their supply?

Why do I buy gas for less in the Mississippi Delta than 5 miles from the refinery?

We have plenty of supply for Louisiana so we shouldn't see any issues. However there are terminals in the Southeast United States that are already starting to run out. Also the need for Reformulated gasoline in the Northeast will be come a problem because many refineries can not meet the spec unless a waiver is issued by the EPA.

I don't think the pipeline disruption will impact my area.

But I WFH these days and don't really need to fill up but every 3 weeks anyways.
