I would definitely have a convo with my kid regarding appropriate behavior and also alert them there are ways to capture images from SC that don't alert you. Such as a BF/GF sending a nude and the recipient using a third party app to capture and store it without the originator being alerted

Its as harmful as any other app that can send photos and texts. But snap chat can be fun, you can record each other and put funny faces, hats, change voice pitch and all kinds of fun stuff. That's what most people use it for.
