Grew up a huge fan of Weird Al. “Amish Paradise,” “The Saga Begins” are both iconic. In my opinion, “Eat It” is right up there with them.

Yup.

And what people don’t seem to get is that sure, parody in itself, is fairly simple. You just switch words out. Mad libs.

But GREAT parody, when you are completely changing the entire song, but not. You are keeping the same tempo, same rhythm, so you KNOW what piece it is and even though the entire thing is different it flows just the same…that’s not easy. It’s a lyrical organ transplant.

You are hitting the same intonations, the same beat steps, the same syllabic stresses. To get all that to come out smooth and flow…that takes skill.

And Weird Al has it in droves

Had a date cancel on me last minute, was no sweat as I just bought myself a better seat to his concert. Was a great time.

He’s the best there ever was at what he does and that commands respect. Read that he lost both parents to carbon monoxide poisoning and he’s a religious person

Mike Richards as Stanley Spadowski was just amazing as well. I went to theaters twice as a kid to see that movie.

Very underrated movie in 1989. I think it got overlooked because a ton of good movies came out the same year.

I'm not a proper fan, but have always appreciated his talent. But beyond his technical skill, I think what's kept him successful all these years is a sort of kindness and humility. I don't know how genuine of a person he actually is, but you never get the impression of any sort of mean-spiritedness in his work. I've heard many artists actually find it a sort of honor when Weird Al uses one of their songs.

In contrast, several years ago, one of my daughters was showing me some young dude who was making parody songs like Weird Al. It was technically good, but the dude had an arrogant, Dane Cook-like "look at me, look how funny/clever I am" quality to him that detracted from the whole thing.

I had to assist Weird Al at the Resort I was working at in Tempe. He was perhaps THE biggest arse hole in the celebrity realm I ever dealt with

Been years since I’ve seen it. Wet nasty night, as good as any to watch it. Thanks!

I watched it the day it came to roku.

It was funny, and obviously a parody , but i would of been interested in a "real" story about his life.

Never really thought much of him, not that I dislike him, but I needed something to watch tonight. Thanks.

Yep, not only does his schtick suck he has the reputation of being a colossal prick.

So far I wasted 1:10 hours of my life. Hopefully I can make the last 30 mins of this.
