If there’s layers to hell, people that respond to being BCC’d deserve the lowest one.

I’m not much on the BCC. It’s passive aggressive way of CC’ing someone. But every now and then, someone needs to be given a heads up somehow about what is going on or there’s something controversial.

Mistake.

Don’t ever do it. People are either idiots or buttholes.

I’ve used it maybe three times in my life. Twice I’ve been burned.

There’s your professional PSA.

I'm convinced half the workforce doesn't even know what BCC is. I've found the same thing.. half the time they just reply all and don't even look at the recipients.

I've gotten Moss'ed, as I call it, a few times on BCC, and had to do damage control each time. I simply don't do it anymore. If I want someone outside of the participants to see a thread, I'll forward it to him/her.

Never use the BCC. Always forward the email to the person separately so they can't Reply All. Some people just love that Reply All button.

That's you're own damned fault. You send the sensitive email to the people who you want to see the recipients and then you FORWARD that email to who you would've put on the BCC list.

BCC is a goddamned rookie move for situations like that. It's useful if you're doing something like a mass mailing where everyone is going to be in the BCC field so they don't know who else got it and you want to ensure that only you see replies.

I'll never understand the reply all button for most circumstances. I have even gotten away from forwarding emails, and will just do a clean email with the previous email in as an attachment because of idiots using Reply All in instances where it has zero reason to do so.

I don’t even bother. We’re all like 12-20+ year employees. We know when somebody is being a chode.

I was the chode. There’s nothing else to be said.

even better, print-save the email as a pdf and attach a pdf

BCC is the equivalent to internet bad arses. If you’re afraid of just cc’ing then don’t say it.

I mostly agree OP but I BCC quite often as I’m the owner of a small business. I blind copy my staff to keep them updated on items if I’m emailing a vendor or client or whatever back. Now I don’t do the whole damn office or a bunch of folks. But I very often BCC one or two people.

ETA: I actually disagree though, the worst is when someone CC’s a ton of people instead of BC’ing them and then the dumbasses CC everyone back and you get a string of emails about Nancy’s granddaughters bday party and you don’t know who the frick Nancy or her daughter even is.
