I worry about the AR&AK-style "pistols" getting the rifles banned.

The "pistols" are taking over crime. While gun nuts such as me tout stats that only 1% of crime/gun crimes involve AR15's and similar rifles (sorry if I'm a little off on the stat classification but you know what I mean). that is ignoring the "pistols."
There are being used more in more in every day street crime. That shootout at the festival in Jackson involved AK style pistols. There was a shootout on capitol street with one. More and more of the drive bys are using these "pistols." The police are facing these weapons more and more.
A few years ago we worried about Glocks with 30 and 50 round extended mags. Now the thugs are ditching them for the AK & AR pistols. The average CCW holder is seriously outgunned. Even a man with a Glock 19 is outgunned.
Let's be real. We're buying them and slapping braces on them because we want a shorter AR-15. Now the criminal element has discovered them and are putting them to great use. The police are often outgunned and have to use their M4's to stand a chance. We are getting more and more street shoutouts in Jackson, for example, and guess what weapons they are using?
While we fight the upcoming attempts to ban AR-15's, we need to start realizing what is going on on the streets. As they continue to proliferate in street crimes, it will be harder to fight banning AR-15's and similar rifles.
I'm sure this post will tick some people off but its a trend I'm noticing in crime, leaving aside the school shooters.

Criminals don't care about laws.
How do you ban something from law abiding citizens when criminals will get it anyway?

Does the news even specifiy the weapons most of the time? I just read something like shooting North Sherwood and assume it was pistols of some sort.

I own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

You didn’t read a damn thing I wrote.
I didn’t say I was advocating it. Just noticing something in crime and if it keeps up, the general public is going to go along with banning them.

They should ban assault orcs first, since they commit most of the violent crimes.

1. Those are already illegal (not even sure if they're a recognized regulated item)
2. Politicians typically don't go after anything associated with minority gang activity these days
