Thank you! I will look her up. I've been looking for other artists that are into this.

If anyone here has a black walnut tree, let me know. I need some of the green outer husks for an ink recipe, hopefully someone can send me some when they harvest in autumn.

You're a bit late this year. I have a tree, but you need the husks green. I have a bucket of dye from last year that I'm still using. I strained it and added denatured alcohol to keep the mold at bay.

I dye paper and fabric for my mom who does junk journaling and card making. I've used it on wood some, too. I've never tried concentrating it down to ink, but I've looked into the process a bit.

I also took pecan shells and soaked them in water for a while. The color is a good, light reddish brown. Soaking in denatured alcohol would probably be faster, though.

Have you ever tried vinegar? I use it in my stain for guitars.
I use store bought color pigments though. The wood takes it really well, especially if you heat it a few seconds in the microwave right before you start applying it.
You can get a nice transparent finish that lets the grain show through very well.
I'm just starting on a thinline telecaster that I'm going to do in a transparent blue. It's got a beautiful figured maple top.

You know what they say about dudes that are into homemade natural inks... nothing good, nothing good at all. Purple swamp one is pretty cool

You inspired me, and I made paint with my 6 and 4 year old grandkids. They loved it!

Yes, it's a heron perched on a branch. There is a tiny frog hidden in there too!

Unfortunately none of these are for sale because they have been given away as gifts...I gave my grandmother the yellow bird one today. I am a full time pharmacist so I can only accept occasional commissions. Can't hurt to ask though, I might say yes.

I usually always have plenty.
This year the tree made less than most years, though. It is an old tree, and pretty much every year I haul off wheelbarrows full of them. I should probably wear a helmet around it in the Fall of the year.

They're a damn fine way to turn an ankle, too!
