Pretty cool. I remember my grandmother talking about her mother making ink from poke weed. We actually called the plant poke salad. She used the purple berries and salt some kind of way.

Impressive painting man. Did you like the "hunt" of having to find a certain ingredient? Did you have to do much trial and error while mixing a color to match what you were wanting? You strike me as someone who wouldn't be as happy just going and buying some nice paint from a hobby shop as you would be going on a hike to find some blackberries that are just at the right stage of ripening to make the color you've been mixing all morning perfect. I know several people I'm friends with who are that way and every one of them are great guys.

Those are beautiful!

Have you tried beauty berries? Spinach/kale potliquor for greens? Strawberry for vibrant reds? Red clay for orange?

That sounds really cool. When we bought some trim for my daughter's wedding dress, all we could get was white. So we dyed it with tea to make it off white.

That's a beautiful interpretive of Tandan in Texas mesquite?

It's cool that you made your paints. Supposing water color? I'm not an artist anymore, well maybe a sandwich artist.

I'm intrigued by the chemistry involved creating these colors. My favorite below, the swamp camp landscape is a very close 2nd. You certainly have unique artistic ability.

To expand your blues, think about planting Indigo.

Rickettsindicgo.com sells the seeds (they sell out fast) and their new website is a thing of beauty and inspiration showing the color range they get (and what they create with the dye.

Cool avatar. Do you collect silver coins in general or particular ones (dimes, quarters, etc.)? I just finished putting together a set of Morgan dollars (1879-1904) from the New Orleans Mint.

I love all silver coins but my favorites are war nickels and mercury dimes. It makes my day when I find one in circulation. The hunt is the fun.

Robin Whitfield has a gallery in the Granada area and she only uses dyes from natural pigments as well. Haven’t seen her in a few years but always loved talking to her and seeing her work. Worth checking out if you are ever in the area.

Thank you! I will look her up. I've been looking for other artists that are into this.

If anyone here has a black walnut tree, let me know. I need some of the green outer husks for an ink recipe, hopefully someone can send me some when they harvest in autumn.
