Adopted a puppy from a local shelter that was labeled a "boxer/lab" mix. our boxer and lab had both died about a year ago so it seemed the perfect adoption. He's been a great puppy - really sweet. 3 months old and very trainable. so far truly the best puppy i've ever had. he only yelped through the night once, after that he was cool in his crate. almost house trained though he has an accident maybe once every other day.

Wife took him to the vet yesterday for his 2nd appointment and she said he is probably some sort of pit bull - could be a mix or something and recommended getting genetic testing to see what he is. Wife is understandably freaking out because we have 2 kids.

Not sure what to do here - I know the national and OT reputation of the pit bull.

He will grow and eat your family. Your fault because you got a discounted dog.

Maybe you should start with the genetic testing.

My mom did the same thing without knowing until she went to the vet. Returned it to the shelter. She has several small grandchildren under 4 and just didn't think it was worth the risk. She felt bad, but realized what she had to do.

People with small kids are better off getting a purebred. You know the breed, temperament, the temperaments of the sire and bitch, etc.

Don't beat yourself up.... it happens.

You know what else happens? Accidental drownings.

I trust you will do what is advisable for your kids, neighborhood kids, the elderly, and all of America.

Get rid of it.

Seriously, why take a chance as that thing gets older?

Grill it while it is still young and tender. Certainly by 18 months.

*past Walker...wth is wrong with you? Drinking already?

Drexyl, tell your daughter that the dog was sick and had to be returned but make sure you bring home another puppy. And try not to confuse this puppy with a Savage killer like you did the first time.
