You can do a lot more good with $150,000,000 than you can being President

I would take the
quote:

$150,000,000

Dementia Joe has a son who has a laptop that proves a president can be bought for less than a couple million. The Chinese bought Dementia Joe, then Hunter made sure the world saw the receipt.

This hypothetical highlights the primary flaw in politics. The only people that would turn down the money, are power hungry weirdos in it for personal gain.

Take the money, move to a small tropical island and don't look back.

Or someone that already has a billion or so in assets to their name. Like President Trump did when he ran.

(2) Receive a one-time, lumpsum payment of $150,000,000? The payment is tax-free and no one would know about it (media, estranged family members, friends, and so on). You are free to do with it what you please. You are free to retire and do what you want. There are no strings attached. I chose this specific sum, as opposed to multiple billions, as it most likely would set you and generations up for life. A prudent one can live extremely comfortably just off a conservative interest return. However, unjustifiably, it isn’t impossible for one to blow it all – i.e., bankrupt athletes and musicians, lottery winners who are now living paycheck to paycheck, etc.

This is obviously the answer, I'm not sure who would choose number 1, other than someone who already has generational wealth. Even still, I would probably choose and extra 150 mil.

If you are POTUS you will parley that into far more than $150 million. Look at the Obamas and Clintons. Both have enormous net worths. So the question really is, “Do you want to be POTUS?”

Imagine wasting time to create this thread for such a terrible hypothetical.

Obamas are estimated to be worth $70 mil

Hillary and Bill are estimated to be around $120 mil per

so no...you are not going to parlay into "far more"

How is this even a question? 150MM. Beside self-aggrandizement, I can't imagine why anyone would want to be a president in this day and age.

ehh

I doubt 150m buys that much influence now

Well, $150 million surely DOES buy Presidential influence, but a guy with a $150 million net worth isn’t donating more than maybe $10 million. Even $10 million would get a few nice favors from a POTUS.

Politicians are a lot cheaper than you seem to think. I donate about $10,000 and a US Senator calls me, personally.
