Hypothetical - would you rather be POTUS or have $150,000,000?Posted by GentleJackJones
on 1/20/21 at 9:26 am

Would you rather:
(1) Be the President of the United States and all its perks – i.e, power, prestige, influence, notoriety. However, that position has its disadvantages – i.e., stressors, incessant attention, constant scrutiny, etc. ; or
(2) Receive a one-time, lumpsum payment of $150,000,000? The payment is tax-free and no one would know about it (media, estranged family members, friends, and so on). You are free to do with it what you please. You are free to retire and do what you want. There are no strings attached. I chose this specific sum, as opposed to multiple billions, as it most likely would set you and generations up for life. A prudent one can live extremely comfortably just off a conservative interest return. However, unjustifiably, it isn’t impossible for one to blow it all – i.e., bankrupt athletes and musicians, lottery winners who are now living paycheck to paycheck, etc.

I'll take the cash. You couldn't pay me enough to be President.

I'd take the money and then act like George Washington. Go retire immediately to my farm and eventually die while my sons grovel for my fortune.

Give me the money, I'm not set up to get ridiculed every day, not matter what I do. I'd rather be fishing, hunting, hiking, banging OT 9.5s or just hanging out on the beach.

If I had to take one or the other, $10,000,000 would do it for me

I would rather get 1 million cash than be president. Hell, I would probably rather have 50k than be president.

10 years ago President without hesitation
Now still President, but it's close. I'm assuming you don't have to campaign to magically get the job. If you have to do that slog it changes the hypo.
I want to know about shite and see stuff few others get to see.
The only real downside is accusations and fabricated accusations about stuff from your past, but my record is pretty boring so it'd be fake stuff mostly.

I wouldn't be POTUS for $150,000,000 much less taking the money for nothing

I think that would depend on some factors:
Do I have to pay taxes on that $150m?
Does my political party have majorities in either house of congress?
Am I well-supported by my own political party?
Is the media 100% aligned against me, with me, or somewhat impartial?
I sure as shitte would take $150 million over being a president in the same position as Trump the last 4 years.
If DC were a little less stacked against me, though, I’d take the presidency and go down in history as a legend or a tyrant.
