Didnt see anything on news. But according to gas station detectives in area, a woman got ran over on a bicycle.
There's got to be some kind of law cause this shite happens way too often out here. 2 lane roads with no shoulders with speed limits around 45-55 mph. Crazy

Which law? Posted speed limits?
Cyclist should follow the same rules of the road as a car, but they admittedly don't all the time.
Comes down to drivers speeding or not paying attention.
Is it dangerous and questionable considering America's lack of cycling smarts? Maybe...doesn't mean it should be outlawed.

Yep. Bikes are legal on pretty much all non controlled access roads
Usually accidents happen because drivers are not paying attention or raging that this biker dare slow them down

Just because it is legal doesn't mean it is smart.
Some roads are extremely dangerous for bikers and common sense by the biker would keep them safe.

I think it's more a matter of crazy plant baws driving like lunatics to punch their time cards and paying attention to nothing else.
There are plenty of 2 laners in TX with 75mph limit.

There is a law. Automobiles are to give the bicycle three-feet of passing clearance.
quote:
Louisiana requires that the operator of a motor vehicle, when overtaking and passing a bicycle proceeding in the same direction on the roadway, shall exercise due care while the motor vehicle is passing the bicycle and shall leave a safe distance between the motor vehicle and the bicycle of not less than three feet and shall maintain such clearance until safely past the overtaken bicycle. An operator of a motor vehicle may pass a bicycle traveling in the same direction in a no-passing zone only when it is safe to do so.

With wide-arse shoulders that are smoother than the travel lanes of LA highways. That locals pull over onto to allow faster drivers to pass safely.

Hwy 22 shoulders are 6 inches of gravel before the ditch. You couldn't pay me to ride a bike down that road.

I wonder if she had lights on her bike. It was still pretty dark when this happened.
So not a very smart decision to ride on that section of road to begin with, but in the dark?
She probably never felt a thing. That driver will have to live with that horror the rest of his/her life. Sad all the way around.

I never ride my bike on main roads.
Surprised at how many bikers pick heavily trafficked roads to ride on.

Yes there is a law, but what people don’t understand is, cyclists are supposed to follow the same rules as motorists. How often do you see people on bikes going against traffic? That is illegal according to state law, but no one pays attention. Also riding bikes in the turning lane is illegal. Again, see it all the time. If cyclists were given tickets some of it might stop.

If that was the case today I wish it'd been a garbage truck they hit instead of a bicyclist.

Was this at Airline x Hwy 22 ? Or further west toward 1-10 ?

East going toward St. Amant. They closed it from the redlight at 61 all the way to Fisherman’s One Stop. Must have been a terrible scene.

That law you are thinking of is called “common sense”

If you are talking about a left turn lane then I would like to see the statute. Where do you expect a cyclist to turn left from?

There may not be a shoulder in the entire parish. I'd love to ride a bike, but there's no way. You can't even walk safely.
Tragic
If you're dead, it doesn't matter how many laws exist about giving cyclists room....you're still dead.
